custom gift basket

Making a custom gift basket is easy and satisfying. A handmade gift basket is a special way to let others know that you care. By making a custom gift basket you create a unique gift for your friends and family. The following six easy steps give you a step by step guide on how to make a gift basket:

1. Choose a theme. It's essential that you consider the personality of the individual in which you are making a gift basket for. For instance, you will want to consider what that child likes to do or what that child may like to eat before if you are making a gift basket for a child.

2. After you have determined the theme of the custom gift basket you will be making, you can begin collecting the material required to make your gift basket. What are the basic items you need? You will need a basket, the items you want to put in the basket, bows and wrapping and other creative tools you might come up with. The more imaginative your items, the better.

3. For creating a custom gift basket, you will not have to purchase an ordinary basket. You can for example use an old picnic basket, a large bowl, a plastic or metal bucket or a cardboard box with decorative wrap applied to it! Buy a container that is sufficiently sized to hold all of the contents you plan to put in the basket.

4. Use your creativity to make a custom gift basket. Take up the basket and consider how you would like to decorate it. Do you want to add glitter, flowers, or sequins? Maybe you want to add special filler in the bottom of the basket like artificial grass or a satin cloth. There are hundreds of things you can do to make an amazing gift basket, you are limited only by your imagination!

5. Now you can begin adding items to the gift basket. Arrange them so that they look professionally laid out! You want your basket to look as beautiful and professional as possible. Arrange the items within the basket in a fashion that is visually appealing. You can also tie things into place or use tie twisters to keep everything arranged.

6. The last step: Wrap the gift basket in some sort of wrapping to keep everything together. Clear or colored plastic wrap can be purchased at any grocery store and can be easily tied off with some curly ribbon and topped with a beautiful bow.

Following these simple steps and your family and friends will be very pleased with a truly special and custom gift basket.

tea gift basket

Choosing baby shower themes is the first step in planning a baby shower. Or, you may choose not to have a theme at all. However, having a theme for your baby shower should make the party entertaining, fun, and a memorable experience.

Before picking a shower theme, decide on what your baby shower guests would find enjoyable. Put yourself in their shoes and think about what you would want to do if you were the baby shower guests. Themes for your baby shower are time savers by providing a focus on the baby shower party.

The theme you decide on will determine everything else about the baby shower. The location, whom to invite, what kind of baby shower decorations, games, food and beverages.

new baby gift basket

Did you ever notice how some new baby gifts stand out from the crowd while others seem to get lost in the pile of gifts? New baby gift baskets are nothing but a handful of gifts including toys, books, candy, etc. packed in a beautiful basket. But to buy new baby gift baskets is not sufficient these days. The presentation is what matters the most. This has less to do with the cost of the baby gifts then with the way they are put together or presented.

Steps to Build a Beautiful New Baby Gift Basket

To present a new baby gift basket which looks unique and draws attention the following suggestions should be helpful:

1) While selecting the gifts to put in the basket one must carefully think about the current and important needs of the parents. For example, a coupon for baby sitting, especially at night, can be a very good option.

2) One can show his or her creativity by putting together a nursing survival kit comprising breast pads, lansinoh cream, and a copy of "The Womanly Art of Breast Feeding".

3) Another option is to create a sleep-time baby gift basket consisting of a soft baby blanket, a white noise CD and a miracle blanket.

4) One must be very particular about providing everything which will be needed by the parents to enjoy the gift. For example, if the presents requires a set of batteries, then it would be nice to include a small package of batteries.

5) The ideal new baby gift basket should be the one which doesn't require any work on the part of the parents to enjoy.

6) It would be nice to include the gift receipt in the basket in case the parents get two or three similar baby gifts so it will be easy to exchange it for a different one.

7) A card mentioning the full name and address of the person presenting the gift should be in the basket so it will help the parents keep track of the gifts and return a thank you note if they choose.

8) It is important that if one doesn't know the family very well, then he or she should not send a personalized gift. With a personalized gift, too often the name gets misspelled. For example, names like John and Kathy can be spelled as Jon and Cathy. Moreover, it's very difficult to know by what name the parents call the baby. If they named her Margaret, but are used to calling her by a nickname like Peggy, then it's possible that the child would never get a gift with Margaret engraved or embroidered on it.

So there you have it. If you want to buy new baby gift baskets for newborn babies and their moms, you can stand out from the rest with the above recommendations and a little creativity.

sympathy gift basket

When a friend or loved one is grieving, it is hard to know what to say or how to show your support. When you want to provide comfort and support and show your concern for a family member, a friend, or an associate, a personalized gift is always an ideal choice. The best gifts are those given and chosen from the heart. It says that you really care and have taken the time to think about the time after the initial grief of losing a loved one ... during the alone and lonely times.

Here is a list of some elegant and comforting gifts, that are simple and appropriate expressions of sympathy for the family and are alternatives to the standard flowers ...

• Angel Painting ... personalized

• Jewelry ... pendant or bracelet

• Music CD

• Book of Poems or poem written by you

• Gift Basket personalized to the family

• Photo Album or Scrapbook of good times shared

• Plant a Tree

• Favorite Photograph Framed

• Memorial Garden Stepping Stone or Bench

• Angel Suncatcher

• Journal for Memories

• Angel Candle and Votive Holder

• Memory Box

• Table Fountain

• Bible or Rosary

Remember, there are no words when someone has experienced the loss of a loved one and when flowers aren't enough to express your caring ... an elegant way to comfort the heart ...personalize it for the family or person you want to bring comfort to ... a continuing expression of love and support with loving thoughts in sympathy ...

In the following weeks be sure and stay in touch with the family or individual by making personal contact with them. Plan a trip or outing if the relationship is a close one. The gift of continual caring and friendship is always appropriate and well received if given from the heart. Sometimes it is the intangible gift that is most appropriate and lasting.

wine country gift basket

Wine gift baskets are welcomed in almost every home and a combination basket can thrill that much more. Mix and match them—offer a treat of red and white wines, chardonnay, Bordeaux, cabernet, port, merlot, zinfandel or that special champagne.

Cashing in on the trends, many retailers, wineries and auction houses are offering discount wine baskets that will let you select a cross-section of wines at astonishingly competitive prices. They make treasured gifts of the latest and the most popular wines for the season. A 2004 variety or a 2001 vintage can be bought at a discount direct from the vineyard, and arouse much excitement and curiosity amongst your friends without burning your pockets!

Special blend wines, undiscovered Napa Valley finds or even the finest vintages can be snatched up through discount offers. Whether you wish to order a magnum, halves or a case of 12 bottles, discount wines can be tailor-made to suit your needs and budget. If you want to surprise someone with wines from Finland, Mauritius, Spain or Trinidad and Tobago, opt for discount offers to surprise and delight.

Brokers, retailers, and wholesale dealers of wine all offer discount wines at regular intervals. The trick is to read wine publications or be part of a wine enthusiast club so you know the latest on wines. Most members of wine clubs have instant access to discounts ranging from 8% to 20%, especially at new launches, wine-tasting galas or seasonal events.

Auction houses or suppliers source their wines from private individuals and global professional contacts. Many world-class wines can be picked up through these offers, so you don’t have to travel around the world to expand your oenophilic taste buds! Coordinate with friends or neighbors so that you can jointly pick up a large discount case and then share the spoils.

Internet auctions also offer rare, unusual wines that have a marked reserve price against which the bidding starts. While there are no minimum orders that limit your purchase of discount wines, there are extra delivery charges as well as the local taxes. Be aware of summer heat or winter cold fallout on your wine, too, before ordering your shipment.

Wines that may never have been reviewed or rated can also be experienced through discount offers. Share the joys of your complex wine adventures through discount wine gift baskets. You will definitely enjoy a long, full finish!

gift basket for man

It's a Guy Thing Gift Basket

Ingredients
This unique gift includes a cigar rolled chocolate chip cookie, shirt and tie decorated vanilla cookie, honey mustard pretzel nuggets, peanut brittle chocolates, chocolate chip gold pecan cookies, and a Harry London milk chocolate cashew cream bar.
Perfect classy gift for a man during Father's day, birthday or just meant to be a surprise. Basket weighs 2.6 pounds.

Bath gift baskets make excellent gifts for multiple occasions. Here are some of my favorite occasions to give bath gift baskets, and what you should include in them:

· New Mother Bath Gift Basket. Whether a woman is in the last stages of pregnancy or whether she has just had her baby, she most definitely deserves to relax. If you are giving a new mother bath gift basket, be sure to fill it with some of the most relaxing items possible. Think of it as a sort of comfort kit. Allow her to turn her own bathroom into a spa. Include candles (and a lighter, just in case) to set a relaxing mood and to fill the bathroom with a calming scent and light. Be sure to include a bubble bath and a sponge (I especially like a soft waffle-weave sponge). Include other bath and body items like lotion and a face mask and maybe even a bath pillow. Some of the most relaxing scents are lavender, chamomile, clary sage, yland ylang, and bergamot. But, perhaps, the best things that you can include in a new mother bath gift basket, the things that she will most appreciate both in and out of the bath, are things like a CD of soothing music and a juicy novel. Do not forget, it is quite possible to put together a new father bath gift basket that will be much appreciated, as well.

· Wedding Bliss Bath Gift Basket. Include in this gift some very romantic items. It can be perfect for a couple to take on their honeymoon or for them to keep the romance alive once home, again. Some romantic scents include sandalwood, gardenia, jasmine, and rose scents. Pick out candles to match these scents. Give his and her toothbrushes and his and her bath sponges. Give them every reason to hop into that bathtub together! Add some massage cream or massage oil. Include some romantic music and maybe even some monogrammed his and her terrycloth robes or plush towels.

· Baby Bath Gift Baskets. This sort of bath gift basket (along with the new mother bath gift basket) makes a great gift for a baby shower. Hey, it only makes sense to give a bath-related item at a “shower,” right? Include in it some baby bath safety items like a soft and fun faucet cover to keep baby from bonking his head. You can also include a shampoo visor and a grip map or a baby bath seat. Add some baby shampoo, baby oil, and baby lotion. Do not forget to add some fun games and other baby bath items! Include a bath book (they make some plastic ones that can be taken into the tub), a rubber ducky, and some bath crayons (which are easy to draw with and easy for Mom to clean up!). And if you can find one of those cute little towels with and animal head hood, all the better.

These are just three types of bath gifts that I especially love to give, but you can give a bath gift basket for practically any occasion! Everyone deserves to have a relaxing bath every now and again. The stressors of every day life can really start to add up! Goodness, even baby deserves to have some relaxing (but supervised) bath time!

When giving a bath gift baskets, pick out scents that you know the person will like. If you are giving one to a man, pick out muskier scents, and include items like a new razor, shaving cream, and aftershave.

unique gift basket

Completely lost on what to buy for an expecting mother? Baby gift baskets are always a great choice.

Ever wonder what to get for the expecting mother who has already gone out and bought everything she will need for her child (and probably the next half dozen or so)? Finding gifts for families can be an extremely tough decision. This is especially true if they have planned ahead enough to purchase everything they deem necessary for a child.

While clothing is usually a good safe bet, more women are deciding not to find out whether or not their child will be a boy or a girl until the baby is born. This certainly limits the options for baby clothes, as you would look simply ridiculous if you purchased items for a baby of the wrong sex. There are also issues of style taste and budget, wrong choices may unintentionally offend

Although countless men and women are confused about what type of gift to purchase for newborns and expecting mothers, more and more smart friends are turning to baby gift baskets.

Baby gift baskets are essentially specialty gift baskets, like the ones available for adults. These, however, contain a variety of baby products such as, photo albums, toys, pacifiers, onesies, bottles, and teething toys. You can purchase baby gift baskets for anywhere between twenty five dollars and upwards into the hundreds of dollars, so there is a product and wide variety of choices available for virtually anyone’s price bracket.

From gender specific to unisex, every type of basket is represented, making them perfect gifts for any type of expecting mother or newborn child. Also, you can even purchase specialty baskets or custom baby gift baskets, which make perfectly personalized gifts that are tailor-made just for that new newborn in your life. More expensive gift baskets come chock full of toys, games, photo albums and some even come with their own carrying carts that are modeled after famous wagons and baby carriages.

At the other end of the price range, the lower end baby gift baskets come with puppets, small stuffed animals and maybe a set of clothes or two. No matter how much you spend, however, a baby gift basket is a unique gift that the parents of the newborn child will treasure forever.

fruit gift basket

Gourmet fruit baskets quickly emerged as a way to deliver a gift of special items that the recipient would never buy for himself, but would probably enjoy. Depending on the tastes and experiences of the recipient, gourmet fruit gift baskets can contain almost anything imaginable. In addition to the usual assortment (high-quality, peak-of-ripeness fruits; rare aged cheeses; or jams and jellies), gourmet bottled items -- such as chestnuts in brandy, various wines and assorted breads and crackers –- are often the dominating items in the basket.

Canned meats and fine smoked fish from around the world have made their way into many of today’s fruit baskets from numerous suppliers. Delicious spreads and exotic foreign foods quite often make their first appearances in holiday gift baskets.

Popular gourmet gift baskets differ from culture to culture, especially in the melting pot of America. There are so many different religious and sectarian groups living in America that a large number of extremely isolated manufacturers of gourmet fruit gift baskets have sprung up to cater to these diverse groups. You’ll find stores in ethnic neighborhoods, offering select items in baskets designed for the people in the area or even the tourists who come by to shop there. In one neighborhood you’ll find gourmet fruit gift baskets that contain a selection of caviars and wines from Russia, not available elsewhere. In other neighborhoods you can find items not available anywhere else -- at any price -- unless you purchase the gift basket they were packaged in.

Gourmet fruit gift baskets have become such a hot item that many ethnic items are launched in America through the fruit basket business. There are mail order companies and websites that cater to individual groups of people and offer them items they haven’t sampled since they left the old country. Through the Internet it is actually possible to contact small companies throughout the world that will ship gourmet fruit gift baskets, full of specific items from the very towns that immigrants used to live in before they made the trip to America. Imagine how it must feel to receive a basket of gourmet goodies from the small town in Germany, or Spain or Russia that you were born in. No other gift and no other form of gift giving are as personal and as satisfying as a gourmet fruit gift basket, chock-full of items that cater to the specifically individual tastes and background of the recipient.

chocolate gift basket

Rich, textured and distinguished, chocolate wine gift baskets stimulate extra excitement and exhilaration like a truly exceptional gift ought to. A combination that instantly tickles the palate and rouses the spirit, chocolates and wine are an uplifting experience to all who are the lucky beneficiaries!

Appropriate in a budding romance, to say thank you or convey get-well wishes, or as wedding, birthday, holiday and party gifts, chocolate wine baskets please the sender and receiver alike. Fresh fruit, organic foods and juices can be added to appease the calorie-conscious.

Catering to the most discriminating of palates, these gift baskets combine wine and chocolates that can tantalize and satiate. Smooth milk or nut chocolate bars, chocolate candy, hazelnut or mint chocolate truffles, toffee almonds, chocolate cookies, and chocolate-covered cherries or blueberries are top favorites. Preserves, syrups and chocolate sauces also complement the wine offering. A box of chocolate fudge truffles, chocolate almond popcorn or cartoon-figured chocolate lollipops can also thrill the youngest members of the receiver’s family.

Wicker, rattan, wire and satin-ribboned baskets embellish the visual appeal of these gift baskets and remain as keepsakes of the occasion. They can include a bunch of flowers, or giftware like books on wine, wine totes and racks, vineyard art, wine country photo prints, wine-themed CDs, videos and software, or redeemable wine gift certificates or club memberships.

Usually, chocolates are not shipped during the summer months, to avoid melting. They are replaced with gourmet food items that are an epicurean’s delight. So you need to consider the time frame, along with your budget, when you plan to send a chocolate-and-wine gift basket.

Mark your gift offering with true style and élan. Create a riot with your irresistible wine or champagne bottles and addictive chocolate menu. The enormous goodwill and bonhomie will see you through many more invitations of celebration and good times!

wedding gift basket

The big 50. The fiftieth wedding anniversary is an important, yet seldom reached milestone in any couple's relationship. Unlike other anniversaries, this one is such a 'biggie' that other people can feel free to celebrate it too (with the happy couple's consent, of course). Traditionally, this is the 'golden wedding', and if you are into flowers, the violet is the main theme. Typically, the kids will want to take the celebrating parents out for a nice meal, but gifts too can be given. Remember that it is not the value of the gift that is important, it is the thought that went into it!

So what to give? Depending on budget, how about one of the following:-

* A photo of the couple in a gilt (gold) frame.

* Get a painting done from a photo of the couple - these are not as expensive as you might think. you can even do a version yourself by scanning a photo into your PC and then using the 'Art' filters in your paint package to turn it into a work of art.

* If you have more than one photo, you could create a scrapbook of them for your folks, bound up in silk ribbon.

* Nice wines or gift baskets containing the things they love (especially if they are on a diet - today is not a day for being strict with yourself!)

* If money is no object, how about a weekend break? You can get some nice 'getaway' cruises of city breaks quite cheaply nowadays. Just make sure they can still travel!

* Do they have major hobbies? Bird spotting? How about some new lightweight binoculars? Golf? How about some new clubs or a set of top of the range balls?

* If they are fans of a charity, see if you can make a donation in their name. It is possible to sponsor rare animals these days, and the WWF will happily send you details if you ask.

* AVOID trying to help them directly in a financial sense, the chances are that no matter how much they would like money, they would prefer to keep their dignity more.

* AVOID 'gift certificates'. This implies that you know they have interests, but can't be bothered to do anything about them.

* AVOID trying to 'muscle in' on their big day. You might think it will show love to try and organize everything, cook the food personally etc, but believe you me, at this age, they need their space, and will appreciate straight gifts or restaurant treats far a more. Never outstay your welcome - they don't have as much stamina as they used to!

coffee gift basket

A frugal gift is measured first by it's usefulness. Speaking from my own experience, I would say that my most appreciated gifts are those that I not only find useful, but that I would have had to purchase myself at some point. With that in mind, the frugal mind that is, the gift actually serves two practical purposes; It is useful and saves me money.

If you are a frugal gal, this task will be much easier for you. If great minds think alike, the same is true of frugal minds. Simply look within yourself. The frugal gal can get excited about the most ordinary of items. For the rest of you, here's a little help.

Although you may question some items on the list, remember, the frugal gal enjoys frugal things! She looks to get the best value for her money and this IS what makes her happy! It just makes sense that providing a practical frugal gift that may also save money, will make her happy. Isn't that what great gifts should do? So here's to happiness and the pursuit of the frugal lifestyle! Happy holidays, happy birthdays, happy Mother's day, etc. etc. etc....

FRUGAL GIFT BASKET IDEAS

Some of these unique gift baskets might seem odd or unusual to the average person. If you're a frugal gal, you'll completely understand. The rest of you will just have to trust me.

# THE LAUNDRY GIFT BASKET

For the frugal gal who holds onto things until they fall apart (or even after they fall apart).
This is the gal who has a laundry basket held together with duct tape, tied together with string or rope, or repaired several times with other various ingenious methods. Probability is, she may not even have a laundry basket. I have several produce boxes (they are extremely strong, especially banana boxes) that make wonderful laundry carriers! And, they are free.

Fill a sturdy laundry basket with one or two boxes each:

* Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
* 20 Mule Team Borax
* A few bars of Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap

I say "sturdy" basket because it will inevitably be put to the test by a frugal gal! If your frugal gal doesn't need a new laundry basket, you can give these gifts in an appropriate size traditional gift basket or just gift bag 'em.

This is a great gift for anyone who doesn't mind saving money. And, I don't know anyone who minds! I would mix up one batch and put in a tightly sealed container. (You can make a decorative container yourself i.e. - a quart mason jar and some decorative fabric banded over the top. Tie with pretty ribbon.) Place with the laundry detergent ingredients to get them to try it and started down the right path. Include the following Laundry Detergent Recipe with the Laundry Basket Gift.

Powdered Laundry Detergent

1 Cup Grated Fels Naptha Soap
1/2 Cup Washing Soda
1/2 Cup Borax
For light load, use 1 tablespoon. For heavy or heavily soiled load, use 2 tablespoons.

Options:
1. If budget allows, throw in some cloth napkins, utility towels, bath towels, hand towels, or washcloths.
2. Make a little book with a variety of laundry tips, tricks, and homemade recipes. This is great for a new bride.

# THE CLEANING GIFT BASKET

The frugal gal makes her own cleaning solutions and is always looking for cleaning and organizing tips. The cleaning basket might include such items as, a couple of spray bottles, steel wool, a pumice stone, cream of tartar, vinegar, baking soda, gloves, scrub brushes, utility towels or cleaning rags, dusters, cloth diapers (make great cleaning rags), household cleaning and organizing tips book or recycling tips.

Top with a personalized cleaning shirt or apron or any other little cleaning gadgets you think your frugal gal might find handy. Throw in a coupon for a coffee break date, with you, at your home, her home, or a local coffee shop! Your treat of course.

# THE KITCHEN GIFT BASKET

The kitchen basket contents is limited only to your imagination! This is a great gift for anyone who loves to cook. Frugal gals know the importance of saving through cooking. If you're a frugal gal you can reflect on your own needs and frequent uses to spark some ideas. By the way, the "basket" doesn't have to be a basket. Did that make sense? You'll see what I mean. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Baker's Basket: Fill a large mixing bowl or basket [she'll probably get more use out of the bowl ;-)] with baking tools and/or supplies as much as will suit your budget. i.e. - Wire whisks of various sizes, wooden spoons, measuring spoons and cups, a sifter, cookie cutters, rubber spatulas (you know, those things you use to scrape every last bit of batter out of the bowl. My husband and I still argue about what these are called), a bag of bulk yeast, can of baking powder, various spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, etc.), vanilla extract, or anything else you know your frugal gal or cook will use or needs.

Top it all off with a personalized apron. Make or buy an apron and write the person's name or a personal message, poem, or saying on it, using a fabric paint pen or paints. Other contents might include a cookbook, some of your own favorite recipes printed neatly on a recipe card or made into a mini cookbook, a recipe file, cookbook stand, well I could go on and on.

2. Cook's Basket: Fill a large stock pot or basket with a variety of cooking utensils or supplies. i.e. - Most of the above items could be considered as well as, ladles, cutlery, small strainer/s, tongs, special seasonings, cooking spices (Italian seasoning, cumin, onion powder, garlic, oregano, thyme, etc) and again, top it off with a pretty apron! Throw in a cookbook if your budget allows and/or toss in some homemade recipes for taco seasoning, chicken bake coating, stuffing, whatever you can find to replace higher priced store bought mixes.

A good idea might be to actually make the mixes and give them already mixed in a tightly sealed container or jar along with the recipe. How to save money on groceries tips or book.

# THE FOOD GIFT BASKET

1. Frugal Food Basket: Mix up some master baking mix, pancake mix, cookie mix, or muffin mix. Pick and choose or give them all in tightly sealed containers or jars and attach recipes for using and the mix recipe. Decorate accordingly of course. Specialty rice and rice mixes, bean mixes, bean and rice mixes, oatmeal, and couscous. A pack of herb seeds or starter plants for indoor herb gardening. Top it off with an apron, or a gift card from your local grocery store.

2. Treat Gift Basket: Now this one is great to give the frugal gal food items that her budget, or frugal mind, just won't allow. Even frugal gals have favorite gourmet items that they love but rarely treat themselves to. For instance, I love Macadamia nuts. But they are very expensive, making them cost prohibitive for my financial goals right now.

If you don't already know, ask a spouse or close relative what items the recipient enjoys. Fill a basket or other creative container with those foods and other various specialty foods, snacks, nuts, and/or cheeses. Remember to take into consideration any diet restrictions and select your contents accordingly.

3. Coffee or Tea Gift Basket: I'm a true coffee lover. But, as a frugal gal, I know that a common brand will get me through the day just as well as a gourmet brand. That doesn't change the fact that I enjoy a good cup of gourmet or specialty coffee once in a while. But, with my current financial goals, the treat comes few and far between.

The coffee basket will definitely be appreciated by the frugal gal who loves a good cup of joe! Pack that basket with several different brands of gourmet or specialty coffee or a lot of the one brand you know she loves. Include a permanent coffee filter to fit the brand of coffeemaker she uses to show you haven't forgotten her practical side! You can easily adapt the contents to fit the tea lover instead. Top it off with a nice coffee cup.

# THE GARDENER'S GIFT BASKET

The gardener's basket is simply a collection of any supplies a home gardener might need; A garden knee pad, gardening tools, seeds, (starter plants if it's the right time of year) Gardening books and tips. Starter pots. Containers for the container gardener. Gloves and a hat. ........

coporate gift basket

In recent years gift baskets have become extremely popular, with an increasing number of options available, plus a number of speciality baskets, such as golf enthusiasts, new baby and gourmet baskets. Another type of basket in great demand is the coporate gift basket.

In choosing coporate gifts, a company has to decide what it is trying to achieve in giving the gift at all. Like any marketing decision (and let's be honest, this is marketing), the choice needs to take into account costs, purpose and likely benefits, as well as any possible adverse reaction if a bad choice is made. So, your coporate gift basket, if that is the general choice you make, should be appropriate not just to the recipient but the level and importance of the business relationship you have with them.

I am stating the obvious in saying that the coporate gift basket you send needs to both please the recipient, and further your business relationship with them. But it should also be kept in economic proportions. If you are sending to a customer who spends $50m a year with you, and you send them an obviously cheap $15 gift basket, the gift is likely to do your business relationship more harm than good. Send a luxury gift basket worth $990 to a customer who spends $100 a year with you, is not a sensible decision, unless they happen to be a great friend of yours; in which case, it is not really a coporate gift anyway.

When making your choice of gift basket, and what to include in it, then do think very carefully. The best marketing, the best customer relationships, are built on an individual basis. Ask yourself: do I not prefer to be treated as an individual, and receive gifts that are personalized? Of course you do; it shows the giver has thought about you and taken you into account as a person. Treat the coporate gift process like a mass mailing addressed "Dear Sir or Madam", and you will damage your customer relationships.

It follows, then, that your choice of coporate gift baskets should be well tailored for the recipients. An element of personalisation is very important, especially for large (spending) customers and their company executives. Just having something engraved can bring a touch of personalisation, even if all customers have exactly the same contents in their gift basket.

What To Put In A Coporate Gift Basket?

Deciding what to put in coporate gift baskets requires a bit of thought, which benefits from the "know your customer" rule. Once you have decided on the budget for each basket, and the type of gift that would be appropriate, it is then a matter of being selective within those criteria. For Christmas gift baskets, some advance planning is definitely needed so you can source the best value and quality of products.

You can find suppliers of coporate gift baskets online who appreciate the need for personalisation and will offer a range of options for you. So, if you choose appropriate quality products to fill the basket, and they are suitable for your gift "target", you can then have one or more items personalised.

Should you decide to have a basket with just one item personalised, then ensure that is placed strategically at the top of the basket, so the recipient sees quickly that you have thought about them as a person. The more individual touches you are able to add to the contents of the basket, the better for your customer relationships. But always remember, your choices must be appropriate.

The types of gifts you can put in the basket are really only limited by imagination. Engravable items can include wine boxes, golf flasks, cufflinks, business card cases. Really, just about anything you can engrave. If you have a gift in mind you cannot engrave, then a metal plaque added could be engraved, such as with a wooden pen box or executive filing case. The more you use your imagination, the more individual your coporate gift basket will be.

holiday gift basket

It is that time of the year again, when hearts are filled with joy. It is the time to rejoice and the time to cherish. It is the time to give and the time to share. It is holiday time! And what better way is there to rejoice and cherish than to give gifts to friends and loved ones.

Holiday season brings joy so abundant that only a bounteous gift basket can express it. Holiday gift baskets can say it like nothing else can. Every holiday brings a special flavor, a special mood. There are little things, little joys associated with each holiday. And there is a special gift basket for each holiday that can bring out the essence of the season. A fall harvest gift basket is filled with chocolate covered dried fruits, roasted nuts and dried fruit and cookies. It is so redolent of all the aromas of the season and will bring back sweet memories. A basket of fresh flowers or sweet-smelling fruits will be well received on any holiday. A picnic gift basket or a movie gift basket (with videos, popcorn and drinks) can be a wonderful way for loved ones to enjoy a holiday. Just get into the holiday mood and select the perfect gift basket and carefully pick each gift to go in the basket.

For moms or for dads, for kids or for grandparents, for friends or for co-workers or for the whole family, holiday gift baskets will double the joy of the celebration.

A holiday gift basket can give a feel of the festivities to those who are away from home. It can convey the love if one can’t be there in person. So, celebrate with a holiday gift basket no matter what the holiday!

gourmet gift basket

Gourmet gift baskets must come as a real surprise to someone who loves to eat. Anyone who passionately loves food is somewhat of a fascist when it comes to eating the best that is available. So, perhaps a gift unsurpassed for a gourmand is a scrumptious basket full of gourmet delights. Here are some suggestions and examples of gourmet gift baskets:

For those enthusiastic about Italian food, a bona fide Tuscan feast is an experience that can be singled out as one in a million. A sprinkling of roasted garlic vinaigrette for that o-so-crunchy Italian salad (made with celery, bell pepper, mushroom, black olives, onion, garlic and oregano) is an enticing appetizer. baby gift basket

Sometimes it's not as easy as you would think picking out a nice baby gift. If Mom and Dad haven’t yet completed a gift registry you may feel a little lost when it comes to picking out the perfect gift to welcome their new bundle of joy appropriately.

Baby gift baskets make the perfect gift and are always welcomed. They can be purchased at different retailers or online. If you are so inclined you can even make a baby gift basket yourself.

Depending on if it's a boy or girl you can come up with an appropriate theme for the basket. Perhaps it might be “diaper duty” and you can include disposable diapers, cleaning cloths, and baby powders for the parents. Do you think those things will be needed? You bet they will. And they will be very much appreciated.

Another wonderful idea for baby gift baskets is to consider filling a basket with travel sizes of the products most used by parents. Things like baby shampoo, soap, baby wash clothes, creams and lotions. Parents appreciate these because they easily fit into the diaper bag when they decide to venture out with the newborn. This is another example of giving the parents a gift that you know will come in handy and will be used and a big way.

Some baby gift baskets include fun items for the baby to enjoy as it begins to grow. Things like toys and books. Although I might hold off on Encyclopaedia Britannica just for now. If there is a popular toy in vogue at the moment you can include that in the baby gift basket. They also make for wonderful keepsakes. Another great idea for a memorable addition to baby gift baskets is a copy of the local newspaper from the specific day the baby was born. I'll bet they hang onto that for the rest of their lives, kind of like a photo album

The first thing you have to think about when preparing your baby gift baskets is, duh, what to put in the “basket.” Of course you can use a nice wicker basket for its base but it’s a better idea to incorporate a useful item into the design.

One idea is the use of a small rocking chair that the baby will be able to use when it becomes a toddler. It makes a great gift and a lovely momento. The seat of the chair takes the place of the basket itself and you can stuff it with items of your choosing; perhaps clothing or toys.

A baby bathtub is a fantastic alternative to traditional baby gift baskets idea. The bathtub can be loaded up with all the bath essentials like shampoos and soaps, washcloths and towels. Add some fun items such as bath crayons or a bath toy so the gift offers something for the first few years of the baby’s life. Anything that keeps the theme of bath time would be appropriate.

When you are preparing baby gift baskets you may want to throw a little something in for mom and dad. Why the hell not? A bottle of wine or if the mother is nursing a bottle of sparkling apple cider along with two sparkling crystal glasses lets the parents toast to their growing family. And you can bet when they make that toast they will be thinking of you as well.

food gift basket

Gourmet food gift baskets are a great way to say everything from “Congratulations on the new baby” to “Thank you for your hard work on that last project.” Gourmet food gift baskets have come a long way from the cheese and sausage boxes of old, especially with the increase in internet buying and companies. The variety of gourmet food products that you can get in a basket is almost unlimited-everything from handcrafted alcoholic beverages to a selection of delectable brownies. Although you can put together gourmet food gift baskets on your own, it may be simpler to order them from a local specialty store or online.

It is important that when you are making gourmet food gift baskets that you consider the recipients likes and dislikes carefully. If you know them well this will be easier than if it is a business relationship where you are unfamiliar with their tastes. Is the recipient on a diet? Do they have allergies to any food products? Do they drink alcohol or coffee? Are they a vegetarian? Each of these questions should be considered when you are thinking about the type of gourmet food gift baskets you would like to give.

If you really want to personalize the gift baskets, you might want to put them together yourself. You can pick up a basket or container fairly cheaply, and then fill it with items from a gourmet food store in your area. This may be a great option if you are not mailing the gourmet food gift baskets-because you don’t have to concern yourself with shipping. However, if you will be sending the gift basket through any shipping service it may be easier to go through a company which specializes in these products.

Companies that make gourmet gift baskets are everywhere on the internet. Choose one that has not only the types of baskets that you need, but also one that has a good reputation, quality products and a good guarantee and return policy. The baskets that you send will not only reflect on the company that made them, but they will reflect you as well.

wine gift basket

Another heady gift basket that can bring smiles is the gourmet wine gift basket. A sure-fire hit with boss, family, friends or business associates, they toast any occasion with élan and encourage the art of hedonistic living! Weddings, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s, housewarming or birthday, get-well-soon wishes – all are appropriate occasions for these generous gift baskets.

Elegant gourmet wine baskets offer interesting wines with a snack or food combination that heightens dining pleasure. You can select your own match or pick a ready-made basket according to your budget or preference, and the occasion. Usually, light wines work with easy snacks and heavy wines for heavy food. Highly spiced foods restrict your choices, as the alcohol in the wine can clash with the spices on your palate. It’s all about trusting your taste buds while experimenting, as well as looking at the region’s favorite combinations.

These baskets usually cater to universal tastes, with red, white or dessert wine or champagne accompanying crackers, cookies and chocolates. Interesting packages can also be created with assorted nuts, tortillas, chips, pretzels, smoked salmon, gourmet sausages, cheese, jelly, savory breads and dips. Other medleys include sauces, purees, extracts, syrups and spreads, exotic coffee or tea, oil and vinegars, herbs and spices, ethnic food ranging from Indian and Japanese to Spanish and Italian, or desserts and sweets.

Ready-made meals with that perfect wine can be presented as a surprise gourmet wine gift offering. Soups, salads, grilled or cooked meats, casseroles, fondues, pies, pastas, desserts and an accompanying wine or two can instantly lighten up an evening. So a Chicken Picata with Chardonnay or Kung Pao chicken with a cool Gewurztraminer, chocolates with port or apricot custard with Sauternes can bedazzle your friends like never before!

The baskets can be elaborately decorated with ribbons and satin trimmings. They can even include hand-painted glasses, wineglass charms, hand-carved wine art, wine ceramics or other wine accessories to give it that exclusive touch. Delectable, divine or plain sensational, you can never go wrong with a gourmet wine basket unless it is bequeathed to someone who abstains from alcohol or whose religion forbids it. Check your foreign business contacts’ cultural background before presenting something that should ideally cheer and uplift.

Light up the candles; lay out the charm, soft music and gourmet wine basket magic – that taste of wine offers a taste of Heaven!

Wine Baskets provides detailed information about wine baskets, wine gift baskets, wine picnic baskets, wine and cheese baskets and more. Wine Baskets is the sister site of Bakery Management.

How to get the best child life insurance quotes

Getting child life insurance quotes on the net can be convenient, but are you sure that you are seeing the big picture?

You can see life insurance information child policies, but the words can be cryptic. The child life insurance coverage information could be well-hidden online too! Because child life insurance costs money, it's important to know precisely what life insurance coverage you can get. It may be best to talk to an authorized life insurance agent.

Question You Should Ask About Your Child Life Insurance

Is child life insurance really worth the premiums? Many question the importance of child life insurance. After all, if anyone needs to get insured, shouldn't it be the working parents? While this is indeed a valid argument, there are advantages to getting child life insurance.

It's not so much the benefits as it is about future eligibility. Child life insurance is especially important if your family has a history of medical illness. You see, if you get child life insurance, your child can automatically get any type of life insurance later on.

Most types of child life insurance are actually term life insurance. Child life insurance often does not build cash value and has small premiums. In order to be competitive, some life insurance agencies are providing child life insurance some features similar to whole life insurance. However, child life insurance ends when your child matures, so the cash value benefits are very minimal.

As a general rule, parents should first get themselves insurance, before their children. Because the main purpose of child life insurance is future eligibility, parents will do well to just get the cheapest child life insurance package.

estroven menopause

Estroven Menopause Monitor

Estroven Menopause Monitor is FDA-approved and is a new self-collected urine test that measures your FSH levels. This test has a 99% accuracy when compared to laboratory blood tests to detect FSH levels.

WHY AN FSH MENOPAUSE TEST?

While still in the womb, the female develops some seven million eggs. At birth, however, this ovarian reserve has already dropped to approximately one million eggs, and only about 400 to 500 ever mature fully to be released during their menstrual cycles. This process continues for several decades and ends with menopause, which is triggered by depletion of the ovarian reserve.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is responsible for the development mature eggs for fertilization during a woman's menstrual cycle. When a women reaches perimenopause, she is beginning to run out of eggs in her ovaries. The brain senses that there is a low estrogen environment, and more FSH is released from the pituitary gland to stimulate the ovaries enough to produce a good follicle (egg) and estrogen.

You can think of it like stepping on the gas pedal of a car to get going. The FSH is the gas, and the pituitary gland releases FSH to get a follicle "going" at the beginning of every menstrual cycle. If there are fewer follicles left (and perhaps lower quality follicles), the "gas" has to be increased to get a follicle to start developing. In a menopausal woman, the gas pedal is on the floor for the rest of her life even though there may be no follicles (or eggs) left that are capable of developing. The menopausal woman's body never gives up trying and FSH levels are permanently elevated.

As women approach menopause, their FSH levels will gradually increase. Once FSH levels reach 25 mIU/ml, women are considered to be experiencing perimenopause. When they run out of follicles (eggs) capable of responding, their FSH will be high, and they will stop having menstrual periods. Women in menopause usually have FSH levels above 40 mIU/ml.

The Estroven Menopause Monitor will detect and give a positive result if a woman's FSH level is 25 mIU/ml or higher. By measuring FSH, the Estroven Menopause Monitor tells women whether they are experiencing perimenopause or menopause. The Menopause Monitor, used periodically, can also be used to alert a woman in her mid to late 30s of when she has become perimenopausal and is reaching the end of fertility.

Because FSH levels can fluctuate during perimenopause, the Menopause Monitor comes with two test kits to be used one to two weeks apart. For assistance in interpreting Estroven Menopause Monitor test results, you should consult with a physician.

Herbs for Menopause

Menopause is a natural occurrence for women and it is something which every woman will face at some point in her life. Fortunately, studies have been done in order to provide herbal treatments and remedies for women going through this stage. Herbal remedies, as controversial as they are, can potentially provide positive effects for women experiencing menopausal symptoms. Here are some common menopausal symptoms and the best form of herbal remedy associated with each:

• Hot Flashes - Hot flashes are one of the most common symptoms for women during menopause. Hot flashes can last up to 6 minutes and can potentially occur several times within one day.

Herbal Remedy – Black Cohosh (also known as squaw root, black snake root or rattle weed) has been studied and is proven as a reputable treatment for hot flashes.

• Insomnia – Many women experiencing menopausal symptoms also have difficulty sleeping. If you suffer from sleeplessness on a regular basis, you probably suffer from chronic insomnia.

Herbal Remedies – Kava (or Kawa) is used throughout the world as a remedy for anxiety and insomnia. Other remedies proven effective for treating insomnia and sleeplessness are Valerian root and HOPS.

• Depression and Mood Swings – Although most people joke about women becoming depressed and moody during menopause, these symptoms are very serious and if not treated properly can become dangerous and harmful.

Herbal Remedy – St. John’s Wart (also known as goat weed) has proven to be an affective antidepressant in reversing the feelings of depression which many menopausal women experience.

• Abnormal Hair Growth – Abnormal hair growth (also called hirsuitism) is perhaps one of the most embarrassing symptoms for women suffering from menopause. Abnormal hair growth can occur anywhere, although above the upper lip is usually a common target.

Herbal Remedy – Saw Palmetto (also known as Serenoa repens or windmill palm) is used for treating men with enlarged prostates as well as for women who are experiencing abnormal hair growth during menopause.

Menopause is a difficult time for every woman, but every woman must face it at some point. Approaching menopause with a positive attitude has been proven to reduce the likeliness of some menopausal symptoms like depression and anxiety. Researching remedies and treatments is the best way to prepare for this stage of your life. This way, when it does happen, you’re aware of what to expect and the best ways to deal with it.

Woman Menopause

For a woman menopause can be a miserable, frightening experience. Not only does it seem that her body has turned on her, often it can seem as if her mind has too. To make matters worse, many women have heard horror stories of their mother's or another woman's experiences. This can mean that for a woman it can become a monster way before she actually begins to go through it herself.

Fortunately, for the average woman it does not have to be a horrifying experience, nor does she have to suffer as perhaps her grandmother and mother did. Today there are a multitude of treatments that can ensure it is much easier to cope with. So today for a woman menopause does not have to be something to be endured with gritted teeth, but can be gotten through easily with the right care.

And there's no question that to a woman menopause can be a bit depressing. There is probably no other phase of a woman's life that is more demanding on her body or that so clearly shows she's aging. The proof of aging alone is enough to make a woman get more emotional than normal. To many women it also causes a grieving phase because having babies is no longer possible.

Also, to a woman it can also bring many physical conditions with it that must be coped with. Parts of a woman's menopause that can be extremely difficult to deal with are fatigue, urinary tract problems, lack of mental clarity, weight gain or weigh loss, low libido, mood swings, and the, oh, so dreaded hot flashes and night sweats. That's why it's important for a woman in menopause to get adequate rest and eat a proper diet.

Still for a woman it can also be the beginning of a wonderful new phase in her life. Most every woman rejoices over no longer having monthly periods. Many women who have gone through it say they feel freer and more content. For one woman it made it possible for her to pursue an entirely new way of living. She went back to college, earned a teaching degree, and now works as a kindergarten teacher, a dream she'd had for years but was too busy for before going through menopause. To any woman it can be both an end and a beginning. While she may have no control over the ending, it's entirely up to her to choose just what that beginning will be.

Post Menopause

The postmenopausal ovary is not a major androgen-producing gland.

Couzinet B, Meduri G, Lecce MG, Young J, Brailly S, Loosfelt H, Milgrom E, Schaison G.
Service d'Endocrinologie et des maladies de la Reproduction, Hopital Bicetre, 94275 Le Kremlin Bicetre cedex, France.

It is currently believed that the postmenopausal ovary remains a gonadotropin-driven, androgen-producing gland. However, the adrenal contribution to circulating androgen levels may explain some conflicting results previously reported. In addition, the steroidogenic potential and gonadotropin responsiveness of the postmenopausal ovary have not been recently reassessed. Plasma T, bioavailable T, free T, androstenedione (Adione), and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate levels were measured in postmenopausal or ovariectomized women with complete adrenal insufficiency, compared with women with intact adrenals. A stimulation human chorionic gonadotropin test (on d 0, 3, and 6) was performed in postmenopausal women with adrenal insufficiency. Dexamethasone was administered for 4 d in postmenopausal women with intact adrenals. Intraovarian T and androstenedione were also measured in homogenates of ovarian tissue from postmenopausal women. Immunocytochemistry was performed on postmenopausal ovaries and premenopausal controls to detect the presence of steroidogenic enzymes (P-450 aromatase, P-450 SCC, 3beta HSD, and P-450 C17) and gonadotropin receptors. Plasma androgen levels were below or close to the limit of the assay in all women with adrenal insufficiency. They were similar in postmenopausal and oophorectomized women with normal adrenals. No hormonal changes were observed after human chorionic gonadotropin injections in women with adrenal insufficiency. In contrast, a dramatic decrease of all steroids was observed after dexamethasone administration in postmenopausal women with intact adrenals. Intraovarian T and androstenedione levels were negligible in postmenopausal ovarian tissue. P-450 aromatase was absent from the 17 ovaries studied, and the enzymes for androgen biosynthesis were either absent (n = 13) or present in very low amounts (n = 4). In all the postmenopausal ovaries, FSH and LH receptors were completely absent. In the absence of adrenal steroids, postmenopausal women have no circulating androgens. This result is consistent with the immunocytochemical studies showing the almost constantly absent steroidogenic enzymes and LH receptors in the postmenopausal ovary. Thus, the climacteric ovary is not a critical source of androgens. The arrest of androgen secretion after menopause may impact significantly on women's health.

Menopause Natural Remedy

More and more women are seeking natural alternative treatments for symptoms of menopause, for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the most compelling reason for many is the association between conventional hormone replacement therapy and a number of serious health risks, including an increased risk of breast cancer and blood clots, although the link has by no means been proven, and the issue is currently the subject of serious debate among women’s health experts. Many women have experienced unpleasant side effects resulting from conventional HRT, including nausea, headaches and vaginal bleeding. Many women simply feel apprehensive at the thought of taking drugs which have been manufactured synthetically.

The whole notion of returning to old fashioned herbal treatments and folk remedies has a certain comforting, romantic appeal. Some of the herbal medicines which are being rediscovered have been used to treat a range of ailments for literally thousands of years. There is a commonly held belief that medicines derived from natural sources are necessarily free from the risk of negative side effects, harmful interactions and allergic reactions. This is simply not true. Whatever kind of medication you choose to take, it’s essential that you fully understand how it works, what dosage level is appropriate for you, and what objective research has been done on its effectiveness and its potential hazards. Your doctor is the best person to provide you with professional, individual advice and attention. Information you find online and in women’s health publications is a useful supplement to your doctor’s advice, and it’s wise to read as widely as you can to get an overall picture of the issues. Your health is the most important thing you have, and while you are free to make your own choices about treating menopause symptoms, it’s vital that you make these choices with your eyes open.

Most experts believe that all of the common symptoms of menopause are caused by the dramatic decline and fluctuations in the body’s levels of estrogen and to some extent progesterone, and the imbalance between them. Approaches to alleviating symptoms generally focus around restoring these hormone levels. Natural treatments are typically made from extracts of plants containing substances which are very similar to the estrogen and/or progesterone produced by the ovaries. The effectiveness of these treatments relies on the assumption that these phytoestrogens and plant progesterones have a similar effect in the body to the body’s own natural hormones. Some herbal treatments work by stimulating glands to produce natural hormones more effectively, rather than restoring the hormones artificially.

Another approach is to treat each symptom individually. There is a range of natural treatments which focus specifically on alleviating common symptoms such as hot flashes, depression, libido problems, vaginal dryness and fatigue.

Estrogen treatments.

Soy

By far the richest source of phytoestrogens (sometimes called “isoflavones”) is soybeans, and foods made from soy extracts. Soy can be consumed in the form of tofu, soy cheese, meat substitute products such as soy burgers, breads and muffins made with soy flour, and soy drinks, sometimes known as “soy milk”. Some studies have shown that consuming soy beverages or breads made with soy flour twice daily can reduce the severity or the number of hot flashes, but results have been inconclusive and inconsistent. Soy powders and pills contain much higher levels of phytoestrogens than soy foods, and may have a more significant effect in alleviating menopause symptoms than soy foods, but little is known about the potential hazards. Consuming soy extracts and soy foods may have a range of other health benefits, including reducing the risk of osteoporosis, cancer and heart disease, and lowering cholesterol. Some studies suggest that phytoestrogens may actually help to reduce the risk of breast cancer by blocking the overproduction of natural estrogen in the body.

Herbs containing phytoestrogens

Red clover has been used in Asia for thousands of years to treat skin conditions, asthma, bronchitis, kidney stones, joint disorders and breast inflammation. It is thought to work by improving circulation and stimulating urine and mucous production, or “purifying the blood”. Red clover has been recently discovered to contain high levels of phytoestrogens, and its usefulness in the treatment of menopause symptoms is being investigated. Some studies have shown the herb to be very effective in reducing hot flashes and improving bone density and strength, while others have been inconclusive.

Dong Quai is an important herb used in Chinese medicine, and has been used to treat PMS, menstrual irregularities and menopause symptoms for thousands of years, although its effectiveness has yet to be clinically verified by Western health practitioners. It is also believed to dilate blood vessels, and is used to treat high blood pressure and circulatory problems.

Black Cohosh

Black cohosh is commonly believed to contain phytoestrogens, although clinical studies to confirm this have been far from conclusive. It is a perennial plant native to North America, and is also known as black snakeroot, bugbane, rattleroot and macrotys. The plant has a long history of usefulness as a medicinal treatment, first by Native American people and more recently by alternative health practitioners, and has been used to treat a range of gynecological ailments including menopause symptoms, infertility, inflammation of the uterus and ovaries, and to induce lactation, bring on menstruation, and alleviate labor pains. It has also been used to treat rheumatism, fever, coughs and colds, hives and backache. Some studies have shown that taking pills made from black cohosh extract is very helpful in providing short term relief from a range of menopause symptoms including hot flashes, depression, mood swings and anxiety. However, little is known about the effects of taking the treatment in the long term, and some negative side effects have been reported, including headaches, stomach and gastric discomfort and weight gain.

Maca

Peruvian Maca root is believed to work by stimulating glands in the body to produce their own estrogen and testosterone. Maca has been cultivated in the Andes region for perhaps thousands of years, and has been used as a treatment to increase energy, enhance libido and increase fertility. Maca root is claimed to provide a range of benefits, including alleviating PMS symptoms, reducing depression and stress, increasing athletic ability and creating a general sense of well being. It is also claimed to be effective in treating a wide range of menopausal symptoms, including mood swings, depression, irritability, anxiety, fatigue, hot flashes, reduced libido, sleep disturbances and breast tenderness. Objective clinical research into the effectiveness and the potential hazards of taking Maca root supplements is very scant.

Progesterone treatments.

An alternative view of the causes of menopause symptoms places more emphasis on the role of progesterone, and the imbalance between progesterone and estrogen. “Estrogen dominance” is a recently identified syndrome, and is believed by a small number of doctors to be the cause of severe PMS and menstrual problems in early adulthood, and a range of severe symptoms as menopause approaches. Advocates of progesterone treatments believe them to be free from the health risks and side effects associated with estrogen based treatments.

Natural progesterone cream

Natural progesterone creams usually contain extracts from Mexican wild yam, which contains a substance which is believed to be similar to the progesterone produced in the body. The creams are applied to the parts of the body where the skin is thinner, such as the breasts, inner thighs, inner forearms or stomach, and are believed to pass through the skin and circulate through the body. Many women have found natural progesterone creams to be very effective in treating menopause symptoms, but there is no evidence to show that the creams lower the risk of breast and uterine cancer, or are free from the risk of side effects as is sometimes claimed.

Chaste tree berry

Chaste tree berry, sometimes known as Chasteberry or Vitex agnus castus has been used since ancient Greek times to treat a range of ailments. It is believed to stimulate the production of progesterone, and has been shown to be very effective in alleviating severe PMS and a range of menopausal symptoms

Pre-menopause is something that all women either know about or have at least heard about, but no one seems to have a name for it or be able to recognize it when it rears its ugly head. Millions of women are going through pre-menopause or have experienced some kind of symptoms, but don’t think there’s any possible way it’s menopause because they’re still in their early thirties.

Symptoms that come along with pre-menopause are basically the same as those that go with menopause: PMS, endometriosis, fibroids, tender and sore breasts, fatigue, irritability, depression, foggy thinking, sudden weight gain, having a hard time conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to full term, memory loss, migraine headaches, light or very heavy periods, spots, bleeding in between periods, and cold hands and feet. While it is a pretty long list, chances are you won’t have every single symptom, but instead just a select few.

All of these symptoms are caused by hormone imbalances, mostly from having too much of the hormone estrogen and not enough of the hormone progesterone. These symptoms are not just scientific and medical; they also have a lot to do with and are more evident in women who are out of touch with their bodies and feelings. Basically, stress heightens the symptoms.

When women have the prescribed pre-menopausal symptoms doctors will usually administer estrogen supplements. Unfortunately, if estrogen doesn’t clear up symptoms, doctors will often perform hysterectomy’s or try drugs for depression such as Zoloft of Prozac unnecessarily. Other than getting pills, women can utilize a healthy diet and regular workout and exercise regimen to help with these early pre-menopause symptoms and an easier life transition.

Pre-menopause is the mixture of a body beginning to cross yet another age marker, and symptoms that every woman will notice around 10-15 years before actually going through menopause. It’s kind of like a dress rehearsal for the big show.

Menopause Insomnia

When a menopausal woman consults a physician, the most frequently heard complaint is insomnia. The ageing process reduces the quality and duration of sleep. In a menopausal woman, the reduction of hormones and its imbalance makes it worse. The biological and psychological changes that occur with menopause create stress, anxiety and depression that are all prime causes of insomnia.

Hot flashes and sweats are common problems with menopausal woman due to hormonal imbalance. When these symptoms happen at night, particularly in the early hours of the morning, it may result in chronic insomnia. A woman wakes up from sleep with hot flashes and is sweating. She finds it extremely difficult to go back to sleep again until she feels normal. Having vivid dreams and getting up with a pounding heart are also part of the problem. Sometimes, even if a woman does not wake up, she switches from a deep restorative stage to one of shallow depth. It is estimated that menopausal related insomnia affects 15 to 17 percent of all women.

Before blaming hormones, it is necessary to have a complete medical workup to detect other underlying causes of insomnia. These include physical and mental health disorders and life style related causes.

The only menopausal specific treatment for sleep problems is hormone replacement therapy. Different studies give conflicting conclusions. It is safe to say that the jury is still out. It may be that women react differently to hormone therapy and a short trial may determine whether it is right for an individual.

Sleep time habits that are useful are keeping the bedroom cool, warm baths, relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation, soft music, using the bed only for sleeping and getting into bed only when sleepy. Mild aerobic exercise early in the evening and consuming foods rich in tryptophan like milk, banana, fig, dates and tuna helps. Avoiding stimulants like caffeine, alcohol and nicotine and foods rich in tyramine like bacon, cheese, and sausage. A glass of wine can also help.

When the hormone level reaches a balance after sometime, though at a lower level, the problem should sort itself out if it is the menopause that caused it.

Insomnia provides detailed information about insomnia, cause of insomnia, chronic insomnia, effects of insomnia and more. Insomnia is the sister site of Male Menopause.

Menopause - Dealing With Hot Flashes

Those of you who have had to deal with menopause or peri-menopause probably have had the experience known as hot flashes, or "your own personal sauna" as some women refer to it. What can you do about hot flashes other than suffer through them?

First, let's talk about what causes hot flashes. We actually don't know what causes them for sure, some people feel that it is due to low levels of estrogen. But since they tend to happen more during peri-menopause which is a time of extreme hormonal fluctuation, we could also assume that they are somehow caused by the hormonal ups and downs, specifically estrogen.

So one of the first choices for treating hot flashes are just some simple lifestyle changes you can adapt to help you get through the period of symptoms. Try to identify your triggers that may be connected to your hot flashes, like drinking a hot beverage or being in situations that stress you out. Some women find that staying away from coffee or other beverages that contain caffeine can help lessen the occurrence of hot flashes. Avoiding alcohol and spicy foods can help too. Dressing in layers can help too in addition to lowering the room temperature and having a small fan handy. Adding more soy protein to your diet may help, but you may want with your doctor before making dietary changes. There are some questions about the affect of soy protein on women who are at high risk for breast cancer.

The second choice is alternative treatments, which include the use of supplements and vitamins and herbs. Acupuncture is an alternative treatment which has been shown to be helpful in treating hot flashes. Vitamins E has been used for years but there has yet to be any data that shows that there is a proven benefit for using it, again because of the breast cancer issue. Bioflavinoids can provide some of the benefits of estrogen and those can be taken with vitamin C. One of the herbs that has been proven to help hot flashes is Black Cohosh. It is available in a product called RemFemin. There are no studies that prove that homeopathic remedies can help relieve symptoms, but they are not shown to cause any harm either, Lachesis, Pulsatilla, Amyl Nitricum and Belladonna are some of the homeopathic remedies that people use to treat hot flashes.

The third option is using drugs. There are non-hormonal drugs and hormonal drugs that can be used to alleviate the symptoms of hot flashes. Some of the drugs that do not contain hormones include Bellergal (belladonna alkaloids, ergotamine and phenobarbital), clonidine, lofexidene and some or the SSRIs like Effexor, Paxil and Prozac. The other drug option is to take hormonal supplements. If your hot flashes are unbearable and you are not at risk for breast cancer or a breast cancer survivor, estrogen is probably going to be your best choice especially for short term use. Sometimes doctors will prescribe birth control pills as treatment when a woman is experiencing hot flashes and still having a period.

Using one or a combination of many of these techniques or treatments should bring you some relief from the annoyance of hot flashes. Just remember that most of the time hot flashes and night sweats are temporary while your body is going through the period of hormonal fluctuations that occur during peri-menopause and should subside once you officially hit menopause.

When Early Signs of Menopause Strike Women

Signs of menopause could strike women with as early as in their late 30’s. And although the average onset of menopause would normally occur when a woman has reached 51 years, there are women of 40’s and 50’s who were already confronting early signs of menopause process.

Menopause signs – How do they afflict women?

Menopause occurs when the ovary of the woman has ceased functioning. Female hormones are the active glands when female body characteristics are developing. These hormones are sourced from the ovary. When the ovary has stopped functioning, this means that there will be no more hormones that could regulate the development of the body and as well as regulating menstrual cycle or pregnancy, thus, the onset of menopause - with which a gradual process of body transition would be experienced.

What are the early signs that a woman is entering her menopausal stage?

The very common sign that a woman is already undergoing the first phase of her menopause is when she is already experiencing irregularity in her menstruation cycle, without appearances of other medical reasons for this experience. It should not be confused, however, that women who have fluctuations with their hormone level production are undergoing menopausal transition. By medical definition, menopause process is attributed to the absence of menstrual cycle in 12 months period.

Before your last menstrual period, you will start experiencing the very first sign of menstruation transition: varying menstrual cycle lengths. This is called “perimenopause”. At this point, you will already be experiencing different early signs of menopausal symptoms. These signs could be distributed to your physical, psychological, and sexual aspects.

The fluctuation and falling of your hormone production may last for several years, depending on the ovarian function or activity that women may go through. Signs leading to menopause symptoms may procure intermittent changes in the woman’s daily and nightly activities.

The following signs are manifestations of menopausal symptoms:

Physical signs of your menopausal cycle are hot flashes, palpitations, insomnia, night sweats, headaches, and joint aches. These signs are often the results of your body’s temperature control.

Psychological signs, on the other hand, are the results of the hormonal changes, in which different levels of emotional stress are experienced. You may encounter mood swings, from irritability to anxiety; from the difficulty in concentrating or forgetfulness; and from the difficulty of coping to easy feeling of stress and pressured moments.

You will also experience a gradual change with your sexual habit. You may have discomforting moments during your intercourse. This is the cause of vaginal dryness – an occurrence because of low estrogen level. Your interest in sexual activities may gradually decrease.

After the last month of your menstruation period comes your “postmenopausal” stage. During this time, in which it encompasses all of the period after perimenopause, you will be experiencing severity of the discomfort you earlier have gone through. These can include urine infection (may lead to discomfort on your passing urine), frequent passing urine whether at daytime and nighttime, leakage of your urine, vaginal dryness and even itching or burning, and vaginal discharge.

As your estrogen level gets affected by the fall of collagen production, the protein needed in maintaining your skin, tendons, hair and nails, you may also see marking changes from those body parts. Skin dryness, hair thinning, and growth of unwanted hair may occur although some of these occurrences can be attributed to ageing.

Menopause Can Cause Dry Eye Syndrome

SAN DIEGO (extracted from 10News.com) -- Hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings are familiar symptoms of menopause for most women.

But many women are unaware that hormonal changes can also cause problems with their eyes.

"I have noticed increased itchy burning, a little scratchy feeling, and intermittent blurring,” said patient Pat Webster-Sanders.

Webster-Sanders thought the changes associated with menopause were behind her.

She never realized her dry, itchy eyes were a sign of decreasing hormones.

"It's a fact that menopause does lead to increased risk of dry eyes,” said Dr. Dan Codon of Scripps Mericos Eye Center.

Dry eye syndrome is a common condition endured by menopausal and peri-menopausal women.

"Dry eye syndrome is a chronic thing," said Codon. “As the eye becomes more dry it becomes scratchy and you feel like you have mascara or an eyelash in your eye."

Webster-Sanders is the typical post-menopausal woman who is presented with typical symptoms of grittiness, stinging, burning and intermittent blurred vision.

Dry eye is caused by inadequate tear production or evaporation.

It causes more than discomfort. If left untreated, it can cause visual impairment and even infection.

Codon added, “In women it's two to three times more common than it is in men."

Symptoms of dry eye include irritation, burning, stinging, discomfort, grittiness, foreign body sensation, blurry vision, and light sensitivity.

The risk of dry eye increases with age.

Male Menopause

UNDATED (WJRT) - (07/12/06)-- Women aren't the only ones who suffer through menopause. Men go through "the change" too.

HealthFirst reporter Leslie LoBue says only about five percent of men in menopause are treated for it.

Hot flashes, mood swings and losing your sex drive. All of these things are signs of change -- signs of menopause and they're not just experienced by women.

Around 25 million men between the ages of 40 and 55 are currently going through male menopause.

"Male menopause is the lowering of the male hormone testosterone that occurs naturally with aging," explained Dr. John Morley, MD, a gerontologist at St. Louis University School of Medicine.

"I think it's quite a difficult problem for men to find out because symptoms are very unspecific," said Dr. Ugis Gruntmanis, MD, an endocrinologist with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, in Dallas.

Men going through menopause can experience muscle loss, osteoporosis, nervousness, fatigue, weight gain and low sex drive.

"It makes you unenthused about life," Morley said.

The big difference between male and female menopause? "The male menopause takes place over a number of years; maybe 10-20 years," said Morley.

Male menopause can be diagnosed with a blood test to check testosterone levels. Studies show testosterone replacement in men can enhance libido and sexual function. It can also improve bone density and muscle mass. "We give them testosterone back, and suddenly they say, 'my life is just much more fun; I'm enjoying life more,'" Morley recounted.

A key concern is that this treatment may increase the risk of prostate cancer, but some men believe it's worth the chance.

Doctors are pushing for long term study, to get a better understanding of the risks of treating men with hormone replacement therapy.

Menopause Weight Gain

Women who gain weight as they age, especially if they do not take hormone replacement, can have a 45 per cent increased risk of breast cancer.Weight loss after the menopause lowers circulating estrogen and so it may reduce the risk of breast cancer in this way. And we also know that weight gain since early adulthood increases breast cancer risk. Less is known, however, of the link between weight gain in later life and breast cancer.

A team at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School have put out a new report on the Nurses' Health Study which looks at weight gain from age 18 and weight gain after menopause. Those who gained 55 pounds or more since age 18 had a 45 per cent increased risk of cancer. This was compared to those who maintained their weight. The link was greatest among those who had never taken hormone replacement.

What is more, those gaining 22 pounds or more since menopause had an 18 per cent bigger risk. Losing weight was linked with a decreased risk. Clearly, these findings provide a huge incentive to women of any age to keep the weight off.

Menopause Symptoms

About Menopause and Its Symptoms

Menopause is when your ovaries stop producing the hormone estrogen, and fertility ends. For those women with a uterus, menopause is signaled by not having a period for 12 consecutive months. Natural menopause occurs for most women between the ages of 45 and 55, although it can occur earlier or later. Menopause can also occur earlier if both of a woman's ovaries are damaged or removed.

Whether menopause occurs naturally or because of surgery all women stop producing as much of the hormone estrogen at menopause as they did before menopause.

Menopause is different for every woman. Some women feel no symptoms or only minor symptoms; others are bothered by disruptive symptoms that interfere with daily life.

Typical symptoms you may notice include:

• Hot flashes – flushing with a sensation of heat that may include sweating often accompanied by an increased pulse rate, palpitations, and sometimes followed by chills
• Night sweats – hot flashes with drenching perspiration occurring at night
• Vaginal dryness – associated with itching, burning, and irritation; sexual intercourse may also be more difficult, or even painful. If you are experiencing only vaginal symptoms, your health care professional may prescribe PREMARIN® (conjugated estrogens) Vaginal Cream
Menopausal symptoms can be treated so that you are more comfortable during this transition.

If you are bothered by your menopausal symptoms, do talk with your health care professional about it and explore ways to make you feel better.

Pre Menopause Symptom

For women in their thirties menopause is the last word they want to hear and the last thing they want to think about. No one wants to admit that they’re at that stage of their life yet, even if it is just the "pre" menopause stage. It doesn’t ever feel like it should be happening yet, especially when most people still have babies or small children at that age. And yet, you can tell your body doesn’t feel 100% normal. You’re not eating any differently but you started gaining wait, your breasts are sore, and your periods are becoming irregular. You’re skin is dry and your sex drive just isn’t what it used to be. You’re irritable, tired, and getting headaches. So what’s the deal, what is happening?

Pre-menopause is something that all women either know about or have at least heard about, but no one seems to have a name for it or be able to recognize it when it rears its ugly head. Menopause Diet

Many women have found that special menopause diets can minimize the symptoms of menopause and make the change of life transition much easier and smoother. Menopause diets are a good alternative to prescribed medication and are good for those who worry about adverse side effects. Most all gynecologists recommend that women who are in their pre-menopause stages adopt a menopause diet and stay on it throughout the transition to reduce stress, reduce symptoms, and to ensure good health.

Black cohosh is one highly recommended herb to add to a menopause diet. Gynecologists urge that women begin using black cohosh for treatment of hot flashes. This herb is quite powerful and shouldn’t be used any longer than six months. If used any longer than this, although there is no exact effects determined, there could be unknown side effects.

Japanese women intake a greater amount of soy in their everyday diet, and they are only 30% as likely to complain of menopause symptoms as women in the United States and other parts of the world. Soy includes estrogen like substances that are often used in menopause diets to help with hot flashes. The best way to take soy is through soymilk or tofu.

There are some things that, unfortunately, are a large part of most everyone’s diet and are hard habits to break. However, these foods have adverse effects and can make menopause symptoms worse. Some of these are tea, alcohol, coffee, spicy food, soft drinks (with caffeine), and smoking. Try and keep high-calorie, sweet junk food to a minimum and eat as little of these as possible.

The main food experts recommend for menopause diets are fruits and vegetables, basically just eating healthy. Boost your intake of fruits such as melons, oranges, and lemons. Potassium, found in bananas, helps with women who retain water. Good vegetables are dark leafy vegetables like collard greens, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, peppers, and tomatoes. Regular fiber intake is also a healthy part of menopause dieting.

Instead of fried foods, try and stick to food that is broiled or baked. Instead of white bread and white rice eat more whole grains, like oats, rye bread, and brown rice. Try not to eat as many regular potatoes, but rather opt for sweet potatoes or pasta. Other good things to add to your everyday diet include, oily fish like mackerel or salmon, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and unprocessed oils for cooking. Other foods that are not so conventional but are recommended are different types of seaweed (ask at your local health food store) like Nori, Kombu, Arame, and Wakame.

A well balanced, nutritious, healthy diet will help reduce symptoms and achieve optimum health in women. The key is to incorporate as many natural foods into your menopause diet as possible.

consultant planning retirement services

TAX-FREE RETIREMENT PLANNING SERVICES For many self-employed individuals and small business owners, employer retirement plans are a key part of retirement savings. Understanding how the employer retirement plan fits into an overall retirement plan is important to being able to plan adequately for retirement.

Congress believes that employers should be encouraged to assist individuals in this retirement planning stage. Congress recognizes that although many employees understand the importance of setting money aside, few understand the link between their retirement savings and their overall retirement planning. Therefore, Congress now permits employers who sponsor an employer retirement plan to provide Qualified Retirement Planning Services to employees or their spouses as a tax-free fringe benefit.

What makes this new development particularly interesting to self-employed individuals and small business owners is that it permits them to spend pre-tax dollars on retirement planning services. Additional benefits include increases in employee job satisfaction and retention, and employee plan participation.

The retirement planning service is available on an employer-paid basis. The value of the Qualified Retirement Planning Service itself is not charged to the employee or included in taxable income. Thus, the value of the service is not subject to Social Security, Medicare, or income tax withholding. Highly compensated employees may only exclude the value of the service from income if the service is available on a non-discriminatory basis to each member of the group of employees that is normally provided education and information regarding the employer plan. This group of individuals generally includes all participants in the employer retirement plan. However, the IRS may permit employers to restrict retirement advice to individuals nearing retirement age under the plan.

The Qualified Retirement Planning Services an employer provides may include advice and information regarding retirement planning for an individual and/or his spouse about how the employer retirement plan fits into their overall retirement plan. Employer retirement plans includes SEPs, SIMPLEs, Profit Sharing Plans, Money Purchase Pension Plans, 401(k)s plans, annuity plans, and 403(b) and 457 plans. As always, the value of any tax preparation, accounting, legal or brokerage services provided by the employer must still be included in the taxable income of the employee.

If the availability of using pre-tax dollars to get good professional retirement planning advice is attractive to you, you will want to contact a qualified financial advisor. A qualified financial advisor can provide more information on the Qualified Retirement Planning Services available to you and your spouse.

income plan retirement supplemental

One of the rules of life is that, sooner or later, everyone has to stop working and retire. For some, this is a golden opportunity to enjoy life and do things they never got the chance to do while they were busy with working and raising a family. For others, however, retirement can be a very scary prospect, with no money coming in and yet some of the biggest expenses still needing to be taken care of. Even though work stops, the truth is that life (and your bills) doesn't. Here are some ways to plan ahead and develop a secure source of income for when you retire.

The most important factor in planning out your retirement income is to plan ahead- the sooner you start to plan, the better. As soon as you reach that stage of life where you are receiving a secure income, you should begin to put money aside in order to draw off of when you retire. You can do this by diversifying your investments- small contributions to several areas will add up when you retire to provide you with a comfortable living- if you are very wise and frugal you may find that your retirement income is actually more than your regular working income was!

The best places to put this money are in areas where they will be able to accrue interest, especially of the compound variety. Some safe investments include mutual funds and saving bonds, in which an investor agrees to leave the money aside for a stated amount of time in order to earn the interest that will often be guaranteed. In some areas, it is also possible to invest in Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) which will not only accrue interest until the time you retire, they are also usually tax deductible in the present.

You should also look for a job in which a regular contribution is made by both the company and by yourself to a pension plan. Ask your employer if it is possible to have some money deducted from each paycheck and deposited to a specific pension plan- many employers will meet the contributions made by the employee.

The most important thing when you are planning out your retirement income is to make sure that the money you invest for that purpose remains there. Many people lose their retirement nest egg in emergencies or even investing in opportunities that seem iron clad, but aren't. When you make investments towards your retirement, do not touch them. Remember that this money will be all you have at that time in your life, and if you lose it you are going to be in for some hard times, with no chance at recuperation. Any risks as far as investments go should be undertaken with money that you budget for that purpose, and not with any of the money that you plan on setting aside for retirement purposes.

Prudence and long-term planning are the watchwords when you begin to develop your secure retirement income. Make a plan and stick to it, and your golden years will be the best time of your life.

retirement party idea

Celebrate and reminisce as you pay tribute to the special guest of honor!

Use this time to remember special people and events, enjoy some good humor, and celebrate upcoming plans. Keep the atmosphere jovial.

While many people like to chip in and buy the guest of honor something special, this is also a good time for gag or white elephant gifts. You can ask people to bring something old or outdated, such as a typewriter.

Activity Ideas

Roast the retiree-to-be. Include all kinds of funny memories and jokingly reflect on the embarrassing as well as the touching moments! Be sure to videotape as a keepsake.

Is the guest of honor known for any particular hobby or activity? How about an all-inclusive activity such as bowling or based on his interests such as a natural history museum.

Gambling on a winner? Choose a casino night as a couples retirement party theme.

Create a time capsule to be opened in five years. Include some of his favorite items and a questionnaire about what he thinks retirement will be like. Make a video of the party to include in his time capsule.

Videotape funny retirement advice for the guest of honor.

Present a scrapbook of memorable events in the retiree's life. It is a nice keepsake that will be cherished for years to come.

Give your guest of honor a great send-off to the next adventure!

retirement investing

Retirement investing has one major question for everyone and I'd bet that if you ask 100 people the following question, you'll receive close to 100 different answers.

What's the question? Well, it's not that hard.

It's - "When is the right time to start investing?"

A simple question I'm sure you'd agree - but the answer can cost you a LOT of money - and the loss is purely down to how long you wait before you start saving!

Let me explain a little!

The honest fact is that nobody truly knows the right time to start investing for 'random people'. So how do you know when it is your best time?

Well, to borrow a line from Star Wars, “Use the force Luke.”

Now the force in this answer isn't some invisible cosmic energy, but instead is the investment force of compound interest.

First, it is very important to understand the difference between simple interest and compound interest. Simple interest can be figured by taking an initial investment that earns interest annually for a period of, for this exercise we will say, two years. After the first year you have your original investment plus the interest. In the second year you have the initial investment plus the interest for the second year, the interest from the first year is not added. Your interest is not being compounded so you are not earning interest on the interest that you have already earned.

This is what I’m talking about, this is the force. Compound interest is a force because you take that initial investment and earn interest in the first year, then in the second year you add the initial investment plus the interest from the first year and earn interest on the whole amount. The smart investor will always try to find a good situation with compound interest against a great situation with simple interest. With this knowledge it is time to see the difference between those who do use the force and those who do not use the force.

Bob starts saving at the age of 24 with a zero balance and contributes $200 monthly until retiring at the ripe old age of 65. By using an average annual rate of return of 12%, Bob can retire with $2,061,941.74. Bob will definitely be able to retire with comfort, the comfort of being a multi-millionaire!

Now let’s consider those who do not use the force.

Carl starts saving at the age of 40 and because dear old Carl is further in his life, we can assume that he started with an initial investment of $10,000 and contributes twice as much, $400 per month, with the same 12% average annual rate of return. Carl will retire at the same ripe old age of 65 that Bob did, but with a significantly smaller $886,803.53.

Now, that is definitely nothing to be ashamed of by any means and unless he has a very expensive habit such as buying first edition comic books - good old Carl is in for a happy retirement.

But it does demonstrate the importance of using the force!

Bob started younger, paid less, and used the force to the tune of almost three times as much money for retirement.

Now you have been empowered, you understand what the force is and how to use it. You understand the importance of starting early and earning on your money, then earning for your earnings.

Use the force! It's no fluke Luke, I can assure you!

canadian retirement

You've probably heard a lot of opposing information about Investing in Real Estate, which is completely annoying! The straight-forward fact about Real Estate is that it is probably the best and safest investment you'll ever make, especially if you live in it, and that you are far more likely to make money in this market than with any other type of investing. The chances are very slim that you'll wake up one morning and the housing market will have dropped by 40%. Egads! That ain't good!

In general,Real Estate values always go up. There are some Apartments in Calgary (Alberta, Canada) that I wanted my husband to buy (he wouldn't, but that didn't stop me from asking!) about five years ago. Back then, the Apartments were selling for $96,500.00 for a Two Bedroom place, and now that same unit is selling for over $150,000.00. Quite an increase in value, eh? (You're learning how to speak 'Canadian', too!) That's over $50,000.00 in gross profit, for the mathematically challenged (me included!). We sure didn't make that kind of profit in the Stock Market in that span of time.

Now, if that were your Primary Residence (the place you actually live), and you had lived there all that time, you would make that profit tax free. The same profit made on the Stock Market would be subject to regular taxes, which totally sucks, since you were the one to invest in the first place, and you were the one to take the chances, but, them's the laws of the land - what are you gonna do?? That's right, buy Real Estate! Ha,ha!

Buy Apartments or Condos

One of the best bits of financial investment ideas that I ever got was from an old boyfriend of mine, Ben Johnson, the Olympic Runner. (Remember him? Turns out, great guy, bad rap, punished more than any real criminal, very wise business man - funny how the press doesn't focus on that…) Anyway, his idea was to buy 15 apartments and rent them at approximately $1000./month (he lives in Toronto, Canada where the rents are high, if that seems exorbitant to you, or low, if you live in New York, and that seems waaay too cheap! ha,ha!). That would give him a regular 'income' of about $15,000./month, provided that the properties are owned outright. Good idea, eh?

Now, we can't afford that many rental properties, yet, but the idea is a good one. I don't know if he ever actually did that, but he planted a seed in my mind that will allow my husband and I to build a solid foundation for a comfortable retirement.

I happen to be partial to the idea of buying new apartments in a regular Apartment Building as opposed to Town Houses, Duplexes or Single Family Homes, because you don't have to worry about serious repair problems, like a new roof or furnace! Those problems can add up to some serious bills for the Property Owner.

New or well-cared for buildings are unlikely to require repairs within the first five years, and if you purchase in a Condo Development, your renter can pay the Condo Fees, which will cover any major building repairs. You will, of course, be responsible for general up-keep, but even that will be minimal if you have good renters and start with good stuff. If you are reluctant to get into the 'Landlord' game because of the whole 'collecting the rent' thing, you can always hire a Property Management Company. They'll handle everything for you for a relatively small fee.

When you're first looking at Rental Properties, Apartments specifically, try to find one that is relatively inexpensive, and make sure that you are in a financial position to carry all the costs involved if you don't have a renter.

Be careful not to pick up a 'real steal' that needs a huge amount of work - you won't save any money on this one - it could ruin you, financially, too, if there are too many complications in the deal. Again, I prefer new, but an apartment in good repair is fine, too. Only you will know how much you can take on.

Also, check with your Banker or Broker to ensure that you qualify to carry a mortgage on the new property. The Interest Rates are particularly low, right now, so this is a great time to invest in property. The great thing about having rental properties is that not only will you be gaining a perpetual monthly income (the difference between the costs of operation and the rental fee), when you are ready to sell the property, you'll get back all of your initial investment and you'll have the equity spread as well.

If you happen to live in the Property for a couple of years, or so, yourself, then any profit you've made will be tax-free, since it will have been your Primary Residence. Always check with your Accountant to comply with local tax laws. Also, you may be able to hand the property down to your children. Amazingly enough, this is no longer a basic right of a parent in certain countries without some one paying massive amounts of taxes, making it virtually impossible… Man, can't wait to live in the States, again!

Our own plan is to pay off our Mortgage on our Primary Residence, then use the money that we would normally put toward the Mortgage Payment to get a mortgage on a Rental Property - an Apartment.

I like the idea of purchasing a number of apartments on the same floor of an Apartment Building, or at the very least, picking up another apartment in the same building. It seems to me that it would be waaay easier to manage properties if they're close together.

Also, we'd like to have an apartment available for each of our children when they are old enough to move out on their own. They could have the choice of having a room mate, themselves, who would pay them directly for their share of the rent. That way, our children could learn first-hand how to be landlords (Man, I really don't care for that term!) and we wouldn't have to worry about where they're living and whether they have any money for groceries! Scoooore!

The other thing that is key to a comfortable retirement is that the properties you acquire before you retire may be paid off before your actual retirement date, if you have one. If you're living well on your regular income (not including the rental income), then you can put a larger portion of the rental income directly on the Principle of the rental property mortgage. This will give you a higher monthly 'income' later.

(I thought this Ad was really funny!! Of course, It's Great to Be A Landlord, so you can still shoot for that!! ha,ha,ha!)

savings for retirement

It's never to early to start saving for retirement and the more you have the better you can enjoy your golden years! You'll be amazed at how much money you can accumulate by changing a few things early on. Here's some tips on what you can do to get a boost in your retirement savings.

Review your insurance. As you age, you may not need the same insurance coverage for life, house and car as you did when you were young. Your life insurance is there to provide income for your family but when the kids are grown and out of the house you might want to evaluate how much your spouse really needs. If you can lower the amount, then you can put the extra savings on premiums into your retirement fund.

The same goes for your home and car insurance, now that you are more financially secure you can probably afford a higher deductible should you need to. Raising your deductible can reduce the annual premiums by 20 percent and this additional money can go into the retirement fund. With any luck you'll never need to use this insurance anyway!

Make your car last. Resist the urge to get a new car every two years and wait until a couple of years after you have paid off the loan before you trade in. The key is to still make the monthly payment - except you can make it to yourself into your retirement savings account. These days cars are pretty well made so if you take good care of it from the beginning, it should last and be reliable for many years.

Pay off your credit cards. With an average interest rate of 15 percent, running a balance on your credit card is like throwing money down the toilet. Pay off any debt as soon as you can and once you have the balances to zero try not to use the cards. If you have to use them, then make sure to pay the balance in full each month to avoid any new charges. Take the money you used to pay in interest and apply that towards your retirement savings.

Take advantage of new 401K contribution limits and put away the max amount. You might feel a little pinch now, but you will soon get used to it and be thankful when you reach retirement. Take away the temptation of spending money by taking advantage of direct deposits from you paycheck. Also, when you get a raise, instead of buying something new or going out to eat more, why not just apply that towards your retirement?

Many of these tips will allow you to put a bit of extra money away from retirement and not even notice that it is missing. If you are diligent in your savings now and put away money instead of living extravagantly it will pay off in the long run!

financial planning for retirement

It is a well known fact that nothing is permanent in this world. Everything is ephemeral. That is why it is always best to have backups, especially financial ones, in case things go out of hand. Hence, a good financial planning for your retirement is the most feasible idea in order for you to save for the future.

DO’s

1. Do know what you are getting into

When making financial planning retirement, it is best to make sure if the management team of the company where you will invest your money is capable of providing you the necessary services that you need. Know how they are going to make money for you. Research the industry. Is it growing? What are the competitors like?

2. Do have an exit strategy

If you make your financial planning retirement, try to create an exit strategy as well. This is to safeguards you from any imminent problems that may arise. Remember that the liquidity of your investment is very important. So, before you start with your financial planning retirement, ask yourself: Can you easily convert it to cash when you need to get out or if something happens and you or your beneficiaries need it?

3. Do invest only in what you are comfortable with

Shop around and be proactive - don't wait for an insurance company or retirement plan institution to appear at the last second. Even if a financial plan looks very attractive, if you do not understand it enough, or are not prepared to risk losing your money, do not put your money in it.

4. Do remember: nothing is sure in the world of investment

Until the matured money is actually in your pocket or is fully enjoyed by your beneficiaries, all projected returns are simply expectations. The important thing is to have a fallback and move forward. So, when making a financial planning retirement, keep in mind that it is not feasible to entirely depend on one financial institution. Look for more alternatives.

DON’Ts

1. Don’t buy into something just because everyone is

When making a financial planning retirement, do some independent research and analysis first; do not be swayed by what other people’s investment moves. Keep in mind that not all financial planning retirement packages are created equal; each plan has its own pros and cons. So, it is best that you know what will work on you when you make your very own financial planning retirement.

2. Don’t invest in the stock market

If you do not know your way around in the stock market, then do not put that on your list as you go along with your financial planning retirement. Stock markets can be a profitable retirement investment vehicle, but they tend to be a risky business. When you do your financial planning for retirement, keep in mind that it is not wise to gamble everything that you have, especially if the financial planning retirement scheme you are contemplating with is still unclear to you. At the very least, don't put all your eggs in one basket, so to speak.

3. Do not borrow money just so you can head off immediately

When making a financial planning retirement, it is best that you focus more on your very own finances rather than deliberately borrowing money from others just so you can start right away.

panama retirement

Another Panamanian secret has been revealed during the past few years—it is a great place to retire to. In 2001, International Living, the renowned magazine and recognized expert for promoting U.S. expatriate lifestyles, stated that Panama is the best place to live outside of the United States. The American Association of Retired People’s (AARP) Modern Maturity Magazine, has ranked Panama’s town of Boquete as fourth in its listing of the "Fifteen best cities in the world for U.S. retirees."

Panama’s popularity as a retirement destination is easy to define. This country’s mixture of a high quality of life, easy life-style, retirement incentives and modern amenities allow persons to change their location and lives, with very little problem.

To begin with, Panama is an incredibly beautiful country. It has a diversity of flora and fauna that is found in no other place, due to the Isthmus’ position as the crossroads of North and South America. Potential residential opportunities range over city, mountain, beach and island communities so that a special place can be found to suit anyone’s taste. Once you decide where to settle, you have the security of knowing that, as a foreigner, you can own property easily and are granted exactly the same rights and protections as a Panamanian property owner.

Due to the pull-out of the American military and other factors, prices for Panamanian real estate have remained basically unchanged from the early 1990s (except for "hot" areas like Boquete in Chiriqui and the islands of the Bocas del Toro archipelago). As of this writing some representative prices in the better known areas include: a three-bedroom, apartment in Panama City, $60,000; a two-bedroom condo in a new high rise, $175,000; a four-plex building in the old Albrook military base, $155,000; a three-bedroom house with lot in Boquete, $100,000; and, a home on the beach in Colon, $40,000.

There are a number of real estate land developments ideal for retirees. Foremost among these is Altos de Cerro Azul and Altos del Maria, both within reasonable distance from Panama City but situated in cooler, mountainous areas and with their own residential infraestructure and services such as clinics and supermarkets close by.

Once you purchase your home, you can also bring your personal and house belongings with you tax-free and a new car (for private use) every two years, plus you pay no property taxes on your residence. If all this is not beneficial enough, English, is spoken widely enough so chances are you can converse with at least some of your new neighbors.

Panama is one of the safest countries in the world and has the highest rating for tourist safety from the prestigious Pinkerton Intelligence Agency. Panama is a constitutional democracy with no dictator and no standing army. Due to the presence of the Panama Canal, Panama also enjoys international protection and monitoring.

In terms of health standards Panama is among the top countries in Latin America. Life expectancy is around 75 years. A large percentage of Panamanian doctors are bilingual and have been trained in Europe and the United States. Private medical facilities are among the best in Central America (many are affiliated with major hospitals in the U.S.). In addition, health standards in most parts of the country are quite good as a result of massive sanitation programs initiated during the construction of the Panama Canal. Water is also potable in most of the country and in the cities you can drink straight from the tap.

Making the most of their money is, of course, a prime concern for retirees. The U.S. dollar has always been the republic’s currency. Panama is known for its banking center, which boasts branch banks from nearly all of the international players. On another note, the cost of living is reasonable and is much less than in the States and Europe. Inflation rates are some of the lowest known, normally hovering between 1% and 2%. Plus, pensioners, or "jubilados" to use the Spanish term receive generous price discounts such as 50% on movies and cultural events, 30% on transportation, 25% on utilities, 15% on personals loans and 1% on personal mortgages.

Those settling in Panama can expect the tab for day-to-day living to be significantly less than in "first-world" countries. Nice apartments and homes can be rented for $1,000 or less per month. Grocery prices are 25%-30% lower. A meal at a good restaurant can be enjoyed for $15-$40. First-run movie tickets are $3.75. Concert tickets range from $20-$100. Maid service is around $180 per month. Gardeners cost under $10 a day. A bottle of Scotch whisky can be found for $6.

Purchasing just what you need is not usually a problem. Due to its mixture of cultures and positioning as an international trade hub, Panama offers a wide range of top-quality goods and, therefore, shopping options.

Keeping in touch with friends, family and the rest of the world is no problem. High-band Internet connectivity, cellular phone networks and ADSL in-home phone capability are readily accessible. Full service satellite and cable TV are common.

Regarding accessibility, many major airlines call at Panama’s Tocumen International Airport, including American and Delta. Panama’s international airline COPA flies to 29 cities in 19 countries and now has direct flights from Houston, Los Angeles, Miami (2 1/2 hours), Newark and Orlando. There are also direct flights from the major Central and South American centers. Anyone wishing to travel from the Eastern Hemisphere will probably be routed through the U.S.

Finally, obtaining a retiree visa is a very simple and inexpensive process. All you need is a "clean" police report from the area in which you lived before Panama, a certificate of health from a Panamanian doctor and proof of personal income of $500 per month, with $100 monthly for any dependents.

Given all the benefits listed above, it is no wonder that for those looking to retire, Panama has become the Latin American location of choice.

retirement quotes

The people who need life insurance do not have it. More than half who have it are not covered enough. Life insurance in America seems to be going beyond the reach of the working class.

You are setting goals, implementing plans and monitoring your finances. A retirement plan, a house and other investments may be a part of your goals. Insurance is a part of a sound financial plan. Insurance always covers the unexpected part. Have you ever searched for life insurance quotes or finding out information from life insurance companies to insure your life?

The question you need to ask yourself is; who are the persons depending on my income? Your spouse, children, aged parents will be the usual answer. Single parent families have increase and the loss of the earning member can cripple this household. Having provided for the dependent members of your family even when you are not around is a comforting assurance. Life insurance can give you this assurance in the uncertain times we face. If you have mis-concepts of life insurance it is best to clear them right away.

Life insurance is not going to pay just for your funeral expenses. Your child’s education may depend on these funds. It can help pay mortgages, other household expenditure or even the estate taxes. Without life insurance benefits the family is vulnerable to dramatic adjustments to cater to their needs when the bread earner is no more. A working Mom’s safety net?

• Life insurance is taken by working mothers so that their heirs are not burdened with debts in case they are not longer around.
• Single Mom’s faced more pressure and as the sole breadwinner need to take up a life insurance policy to cover the costs of child care and education. A college education can also be quite expensive and the policy could be of help when your child reaches college.
• Young couples need to get a life insurance policy as it provides a safety net. This is a necessity for families with small savings. The responsibilities are huge and the spouse and kids can be supported by the insurance amount.
• The burden on the other savings that you have can be eased a little when you have a life insurance policy.
• In case of mortgages and other payments a insurance policy can stand as a better guarantee. The single spouse would find it difficult to make payments on the house mortgage.
• You may also insure your parent who looks after the maintenance of the house and looks after the children.

Housewives are not far behind. In case you are a pre-retired housewife that has had an early retirement to look after the house and the children. You can avail the best insurance policy to safeguard the financial aspect of your family.

A good rule of the thumb in any life insurance policy is that the cover should be two to six times of the annual income. Take into consideration the inflation, potential loans and mortgages, college tuition fees etc …, incase they do not suffice you could always go for a supplemental life insurance policy. This will increase the coverage.

retirement income planning

When looking towards retirement many people just think about the joy of not having to work anymore. Unfortunately, even though a person retires they still have bills to pay. The need for careful planning is perhaps the most overlooked part of retirement. Having a set plan in place before retirement will help to ensure the golden years are golden.

The following list gives some great points on how to plan for retirement.

1. Save money. Before retirement setting up a savings account or 401K will get a person prepared for life without a steady paycheck. A 401K is usually sponsored through an employer where the employer matches contributions the employee makes. Money put into a 401K also goes untaxed which can mean immediate savings. IRA’s are also another way to save for retirement. These accounts are also not taxed.

2. Determine your expenses after retirement. A person should have a fairly good idea what monthly expenses they expect to have after retirement. Having a rough idea will help a person determine how much they need to save to be able to make it. Then considerations also need to be made for special purchases like cars and trips.

3. Working after retirement. Many people chose to take on a part-time position after retiring. Most often it is to supplement their income, but for others it is a way to socialize and gives them something to do with all the spare time they now have. If a person is not planning on working anymore at all then they should have some idea what they do want to do with their time. Many retirees find that retirement can be boring after years spent in the work force.

These three points will give a person something to think about when planning for retirement. Getting a good financial plan is the first step. It is also important to consider what life will really be like once the daily work schedule is gone.

annuity retirement

When an employee retires after several years of work, the employer offers some financial monetary retirement benefits, like a pension or cash balance plan, as a gesture of gratitude for the employee’s service. Many retirees invest their retirement package in insurance companies by signing an agreement, according to which the insurance company acquires their retirement package and in return makes periodic payments to the retirees, who are the investors. That is, the insurance company ‘sells’ annuities to the retirees.

Although by buying an annuity the investor [retiree] is guaranteed periodic income, there’s one problem. Can the retiree use his annuity for an immediate financial need, like medical treatment? Although his whole retirement benefit package is with the insurance company, he cannot withdraw any part of the amount during the agreed time period, known as the ‘surrender period’, without paying ‘surrender charge fees’ as a penalty. Suppose he bought an annuity with a 5-year surrender period. If he wants to withdraw some amount, he may have to pay a 5 percent fee in the first year, 4 percent during the second year, and so on.

Considering this difficulty, the Federal and state governments have introduced provisions so that retirees can sell their annuity payments and obtain immediate cash. There are several finance companies that can buy a person’s annuities and pay them back in terms of immediate cash. The process works as follows:

The person approaches any appropriate finance company that can buy his annuity. The company offers several options that meet the person’s financial needs. Once the person selects the option, the company completes the application process. The applicant is provided with a disclosure statement and a contract, which he will sign and get notarized. The finance company collects the contract along with relevant documents, processes the application and submits it for approval to the court. The court reviews the application to confirm if it is in the best interests of the applicant. The companies are expected to follow all relevant state and federal laws in the process.

Once the court approves the application, the finance company notifies the applicant’s insurance company of the transfer. Cash is transferred to the applicant in just a few days. The retiree can use this money to meet any of his immediate or unexpected financial needs.

Gas prices curtail travel
Tier drivers face tough choices

By George Basler
Press & Sun-Bulletin

David S. Majka loved driving his Mercury Grand Marquis, but that didn't stop the 44-year-old Binghamton man from selling it.

Rising gas prices made the price tag for filling the eight-cylinder car too high, he said as he stopped at a convenience store on Clinton Street. He ran out of gas twice.

"I'm not rich," said Majka, a chef who is on disability while he recovers from knee surgery. He now drives a six-cylinder vehicle.

Majka's decision to part with his beloved car is one example of how rising pump prices are pinching Southern Tier residents in big -- and small -- ways.

The average retail price for a gallon of regular gas has crept over the $3 threshold in the Binghamton metropolitan area, standing at $3.05 Wednesday. While that's not a record -- the highest price was $3.39 a gallon on Sept. 7, 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina -- it's 20 cents higher than a month ago and 66 cents higher than a year ago, the daily fuel gauge report from AAA reports.

A family with two cars in central New York will pay $950 more for gas this year, according to an analysis released Wednesday by U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y.

The rising prices draw universal grumbles from Tier residents. But the impact varies. Some residents are reporting no significant changes to their lifestyles. Others report having to make spending cutbacks in other areas.

People on limited budgets are hardest hit. "Our clients do talk a lot about having to make choices," said Tom Schmid, a case manager with Catholic Charities of Broome County. He's heard talk of clients cutting back on groceries, or canceling appointments because they don't want to drive.

Others feeling the impact are those who depend on driving for their livelihood. "It's killing me," said Mike Harris, 40, a Binghamton contractor. He'll put $10 in his Ford F150 pickup truck and see it be gone by lunch time. A $120 fill-up doesn't last the week, and he's had to pass on the costs to his customers, Harris said.

On a personal level, Harris no longer drives his Lincoln Town Car. It's parked in the garage. He's cut down on discretionary spending, such as taking his wife out to dinner, and decided not to take a family trip to Canada. "I don't do a darn thing. I can't afford to," Harris said.

Nationally, the U.S. average retail price increased 1.4 cents over the past week, 71 cents higher than a year ago, the second-highest pump price ever and close to the record $3.07 last September, the federal Energy Information Administration's weekly survey for 800 service stations reported.

Attendance is off at one prominent Southern Tier tourist attraction, and an official links it to gas prices. Visitors at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown are down about 10 percent, said Brad Horn, communications director for the museum that normally draws 350,000 people a year -- 70 percent of them between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

"We certainly believe fuel costs contributed to this," Horn said. Cooperstown is a regional travel destination so if a family in California chooses not to fly or a family in Philadelphia chooses not to drive, it affects attendance, he said.

At the same time, the number of people stopping at the Gateway Visitors' Center on Interstate 81 in Kirkwood is down. A total of 116,055 people stopped at the center during the last week in June and first three weeks in July, some 7.4 percent fewer than the 125,388 who stopped during the same period last year, said Laura Quintin, the center's director. She blamed higher gas prices for the decrease.

"It's a real drain on the wallet," said Mark Haluska, 19, of Endicott, who commutes to Broome Community College where he's a student. He also works at Russell Steak & Seafood House in Endicott. Filling the tank of his Chevy Silverado costs $80 every 10 days.

While this hasn't affected his driving, Haluska is working more hours to cover the higher cost. He's also making a lifestyle change by fixing up a Honda so he can use it instead of the Silverado. The reason: The Honda gets better gas mileage.

Higher gas prices are affecting Dick Card's retirement. Card, 66, lives in a recreational vehicle with his wife. They've traveled all over the country. But this year, they've traveled about half the number of miles of some previous years and they've reduced some frills, such as eating out, he said. He also noticed fewer people at recreation vehicle campgrounds in Texas, where he and his wife have stayed.

"Last year, they were 95 percent to 98 percent filled. This year, it's 75 to 85 percent," he said.

Higher prices have "a tremendous effect" on his business, said Clay Prentice, 34, of Castle Creek, who owns a water purification business and makes deliveries. When the price of gasoline goes above $3 a gallon, he has to pass on a fuel surcharge to customers. On a personal level, however, the impact for him is not as great, Prentice said.

"Like everything else, prices go up, you deal with it," he said.

One factor driving up gas prices is the turbulent situation in the Middle East that has driven up speculation on crude oil, which climbed as high as $75.78 a barrel Tuesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Reports of refinery problems in Texas and Illinois have also increased concerns about fuel supplies.

Barring any unforeseen developments, the price shouldn't go much higher, said Michael Burdette, a senior analyst with the U.S. Energy Information Administration. For one thing, the summer driving season has peaked and will be winding down, he said.

"All things being equal, it may creep up 5 cents in the next week or two, but there's nothing in the market to push it beyond that," Burdette said.

retirement calculators

Retirement calculators can help you prepare for the future
By Christine Dugas, USA TODAY

Retirement may or may not be a long way off, but it never hurts to find out if you're on the right track. Even if you'd rather not pay a financial planner, there are free online retirement calculators that can help you check out your progress.

Before you settle on any one calculator, though, you'll want to make sure you pick a good one.

To help you get started, USA TODAY called on Sheryl Garrett, founder of Garrett Planning Network, a group of fee-only financial planners who provide advice for an hourly rate. Asked to try out several retirement calculators and evaluate the results, Garrett applied a fictitious married couple (see chart) to four calculators.

Some calculators ask you to include your Social Security benefits in projecting retirement income. Garrett, though, says it might be unwise to do so. After all, Social Security income may not fully materialize for those under age 50.

One way to be safe is to use half your expected Social Security retirement income in a calculator. Or have a calculator produce two results: one with your Social Security benefits, the other without. Either option can help you get a fairly realistic estimate of how much you need to save. If you end up with more money than you'd expected, Garrett notes, it'll come in handy for what could be colossal health care costs in retirement.

The calculators work in varying ways. Some ask for your pay; others don't. Some ask for your total savings; others look just at retirement assets. Some, but not all, distinguish between tax-deferred and taxable funds. All give an estimate of how much you'll need.

You not only have to decide how to reply to the questions; you also must check your numbers. Any errors could skew the results. Whatever you do, don't put off checking your finances until you're near retirement. "Time is your best ally," Garrett says.

Here are four calculators, with tips on using them. Click on the blue links to go to the sites:

•NASD.com

NASD oversees brokerage firms, so it seems like a smart source on financial issues. Unlike many others, its calculator is quick and easy. But before you use it, there's an important warning: "Don't rely on its default estimates," Garrett says. For example, unless you input how long you expect to live, the calculator defaults to age 85. Relying on that could lower the amount of money you need to save if you actually live longer than that, as many of today's baby boomers will.

Garrett also noticed that unless you adjusted your tax rate in retirement, the calculator defaulted to 15%. She says it would be more prudent to use 25% or higher, because tax rates are now at historically low levels. Future tax rates may be higher.

The NASD says it's been re-evaluating its retirement calculator for some time and just last week adjusted the tax-rate default from 15% to 25%, says spokesman Herb Perone. It also plans to produce a longevity calculator that'll help you make sure you don't outlive your retirement income.

Once you adjust the default estimates, Garrett says, NASD's calculator gives a credible retirement estimate.

•AARP.org

AARP is the non-profit group for people 50 and older. Its calculator, more detailed than NASD's, can combine information from two partners. It also lets you change your projected investment rate of return over time. Keep in mind that anything more than 7% is too high, Garrett says. "You only want to be surprised on the upside." And as you age, your projected return on investment should decline, because most of us start shifting to more conservative investments.

The calculator has you fill in your life expectancy, though it goes up to only 99. So it may not help you plan for enough money for living to 100 or more. Asked about this, AARP says only about 10% of Americans expect to live to their late 90s or older. It tried to create a tool that is a quick gauge for most people, says Jean Setzfand of AARP.

Among other things, the calculator asks for details about your retirement-account contributions. But if the amount you save varies from month to month, it's better to say zero, Garrett says. Then, after the calculator tells you how much you need to save, you can subtract a rough estimate of how much you're actually saving to arrive at a realistic figure.

•EBRI's Choose to Save Ballpark Estimate

EBRI, the Employee Benefit Research Institute, is a non-profit research group. Like AARP, it puts you through detailed financial questions. Both these calculators let you include wages after retirement. (These days, many people will live for years after they retire and continue to earn money, though typically from work that pays less than the jobs they left.)

Unlike AARP's calculator, the Ballpark Estimate lets you set up a life expectancy over 100. Couples have to separately fill out Ballpark Estimate calculators.

Garrett says the Ballpark Estimate is a good calculator, but she thinks one question is a bit confusing. It asks you to enter a replacement rate, which, it explains, is the portion of your current income you'd like to receive in retirement. It'd be easier, she says, if it let you input a dollar amount instead of a percentage.

Jack VanDerhei, an EBRI fellow, says the group will announce later this summer a new online feature that'll help you determine an accurate retirement replacement rate.

•T. Rowe Price.com

T. Rowe Price, a mutual fund company, offers a calculator that it calls a retirement planning worksheet. It's helpful and easy to use. But it also has some defaults you should carefully consider.

One question, for instance, asks for the rate of return you expect to earn on your taxable investments between now and retirement. Unless you input your own estimate, the default is 8%. But if you rely on that figure and your investments don't fare that well, the results would overestimate your retirement savings.

Nor does the calculator ask for Social Security benefits. It asks how much of your current salary you'll need in retirement to maintain your lifestyle. If you're over 50 and expect Social Security benefits, be aware the results won't include them in its estimate.

Garrett says all four calculators have benefits and limitations. And because they rely on different assumptions, it's hard to assess accuracy. Still, Garrett thinks EBRI's Ballpark Estimate makes the best real-life projections. She says it's the most flexible, allowing for such factors as post-retirement job income.

But if you're young and haven't saved much for retirement yet, you might want to start with one of the easiest calculators, such as NASD's. Or try two different calculators. Though the assumptions won't be identical, they'll give you a range for how much to save.

A calculator can help focus your attention on saving more money for retirement. But it shouldn't be all you rely on. For more comprehensive help, a certified financial planner may be worth considering.

retirement gifts

Personalizing retirement gifts to your employees.

When you give a gift of any nature or for any occasion, you want to make it something that the recipient will really like and keep for many years. While you want to put your own personal stamp on the gift so that whomever you give it to will remember you, you do need to make it personal for the gift recipient. A retirement gift for an employee that has given years of service is usually a bracelet or a watch. That in itself is an expensive gift, but when it is engraved with a personal message or Thank You, it makes the gift all that much more memorable.

Taking the time to search for the perfect gift shows in the gift itself. When you give clothes to a child at Christmas or for a birthday, the parents are happy. However, the child is probably devastated because he/she wants something to play with. Even though teenagers love to get clothing as gifts, you really do need to know that person well to be able to pick out a style that suits the taste and personality. This is why giving a teenager money as a gift is the best choice because it gives the young person a choice in what he/she wants to buy.

Baby showers, wedding showers, weddings, birthdays and anniversaries all offer an opportunity to choose the perfect gift. For many people receiving money in a card says that you couldn't be bothered to take the time to go shopping for a gift. You do have to know the person and take time to reflect on what he/she likes in order to give a gift that will count. Although gift certificates are acceptable, you may be limiting that person to shop at a store that he/she does not like.

Jewellery is always a good choice as are candles, ornaments and electronic gadgets. The price of the gift is not important. It is the thought and the actual gift that count the most.

retirement gift

Retirement gifts are presented to an employee or employer by his or her boss, co-workers, or colleagues during the send off or farewell party. The gifts demonstrate that the employee or employer is appreciated and respected for the years of dedicated hard work she has put in. Retirement gifts can range from anything like travel vouchers to gourmet baskets and they can be as inexpensive or luxurious as you choose.

Travel vouchers are available at your nearest travel agent, and a relaxing trip for two to the mountains or seaside is something the recently retired employee or boss will cherish. They can be simple weekend getaways to a nearby nature camp, or a few days stay in a summer resort.

Gift baskets are another popular option. AllOccasionBaskets.com retails Sweet and Savory Baskets, which have the best quality apples, pears, almonds, cheese and crackers, costing $105. Fruit baskets from the same website contain farm fresh fruits like apples, pears, and cherries, retailing for a little more than $90. Coffee and Tea Baskets are also popular. A Coffee basket from AllOccasion retails for a little more than $50, and has two kinds of creamers, chocolate stir spoons, as well as tea cookies and bonbons.

Chocolat.com has the one of the best chocolate gift baskets, the Luxury Chocolat Retirement Gift line is one of the most popular on the site. These are personalized mahogany boxes fitted with brass plates engraved with the recipient’s name and a message. The box contains handcrafted French chocolates, and makes a good retirement gift.

Personalized mementos are also a good option. A memento embossed or carved with the recipient’s name, date of joining and retirement, are the most popular retirement gift options. These are inexpensive, and retailed by many websites specializing in customizing gifts.

retirement jobs

And you thought you were all finished with work. But retirement planning these days includes so many diverse options. And one of them is to find a retirement job.

If you’re leaning in that direction because you just can’t see yourself hanging up your work shoes . . . or perhaps you wish to work for financial security . . . well, there are some fabulous opportunities just tailor made for your situation.

The good news is that many companies value having retirees on their workforce. They’re experienced, loyal, committed, on time and get along well with others. What employer wouldn’t salivate to have someone like that on board?

If you’ve decided to explore some retirement work opportunities, whether full-time or part-time, there are five benchmarks you can use to check out in advance to determine if an employment situation makes sense for you. That way you can be sure you’ll wind up in an environment that’s comfortable and productive.

1. Health benefits. The best companies offer subsidies for eldercare, tax-free health accounts, wellness programs and insurance coverage for part-time workers.

2. Recruiting. Forward-looking employers target diverse age groups. They seek out older workers, rehire retirees, and actively retain their older workers.

3. Pension plans. Defined-benefit plans, stock options, profit sharing, incentive programs . . . all these are signals that you’re dealing with an age-friendly organization.

4. Training and development. The very best employer provides career counseling, refresher courses, as well as mentoring and coaching opportunities.

5. Alternative work arrangements. Flexible workplaces with seasonal schedules, shift options, telecommuting, leave for care-giving. In other words, do they engage older workers on their own terms?

Now, where do you find such high-quality employment opportunities?

For openers you might take a look at the Nov/Dec issue (2005) of AARP Magazine. They list a number of companies that meet these high-quality specifications.

On the other hand, if you haven’t been in the job market recently, you must understand that things have changed dramatically, especially since 9/11 and Katrina.

To succeed in today’s job marketplace you need to dump the old-fashioned ways of finding a job and discover the exciting alternative and non-traditional strategies that can guarantee you a high-paying job in as little as 14 days!

With these innovative techniques you can be sure your retirement job search planning will lead to the career adventure of a lifetime!

Paul Megan writes for EEI, the world-class pioneer in alternative job search techniques and non-traditional career advancement strategies . . . since 1985. Grab our stunning FREE REPORT: "How To Lock Up A High-Paying Job In 14 Days (Or Less)!" Click on RSS. http://www.fastest-job-search.com

retirement calculator

Retirement Savings Calculator -- Why It's Important

Why do I need to save for my retirement? After all, aren't the government and my company going to provide for my retirement income? And, not only that, but I'll be making so much more money in the future that I'll be able to make up for lost time then.

It's sad that many Americans think that providing for their retirement is somebody else's responsibility. Savings rates have declined over that past decade and many people are pulling money out of their savings just to make ends meet.

But, that fact is that others are not preparing for your financial future. And, too many people themselves are failing to prepare financially for their own retirement.

The National Retirement Risk Index, prepared by Boston College's Center for Retirement Research, indicates that 43% of households will fall short of having 90% of the assets they need to maintain their lifestyle into retirement. Generation Xers are worse off with 49% not preparing adequately for retirement.

Government is not the answer. The federal government is feeling the pinch of its overspending habits. President Bush plans for the federal government to spend about $2,885 more per individual taxpayer than it expects to receive in taxes in 2007. About a quarter of your tax money already goes to pay the interest on the national debt. Debt payment is one of the fastest growing parts of the federal budget.

Social Security is not in any better shape. All the excess Social Security taxes now collected are spent by the government. They place IOUs in the form of bonds in the Social Security Trust Fund. The Trust Fund consists pieces of paper with promises to pay future benefits--no real assets. And, the Social Security system is expected to start paying out more in benefits than it receives in taxes by 2017.

Businesses are also feeling the pinch of foreign competition. Large corporations are increasingly hard pressed to meet their promises to pay their retiree's medical care. Competition with foreign companies that provide few employee benefits have forced some US companies to declare or threaten to declare bankruptcy in order to reduce employee compensation and benefits.

The stool with the three "legs" of retirement security (the government, your company, and you) is starting to wobble. And two of those legs are getting pretty weak. That gives you increased responsibility.

If you retire at age 65, you will probably live for another 30 or 40 years. You must prepare to provide a retirement nest egg that will help supply your financial needs for at least 40 years.

The best way to determine how to have a successful retirement is to use a retirement savings calculator. This will show you the growth in your retirement savings during your working years as well as the value of your savings during the years you withdraw money after retirement.

By adjusting how much you save, the rate of return on your investments, the expected inflation rate during retirement, the amount of pension and Social Security you expect, and other factors, you can determine a plan of action that will sustain you as long as possible.

Here are some of the factors that will affect the amount of retirement savings you accumulate and how long those investments will last.

- Current annual income
- Percentage of your current income you invest for retirement
- Number of years until you retire
- Percentage annual increase you expect in your annual earnings
- Percentage of your final earnings you'll spend if retired
- Amount of your pension and Social Security you expect to receive
- Inflation rate during your retirement years
- The amount you currently have invested for retirement
- Expected average growth rate of your investments

By entering various values into a retirement savings calculator you can see how to improve your chances for a successful and prosperous life as a retiree.

Let's look at an example.

Suppose you are 25 years old, starting in a professional job at $50,000 a year with no savings and expect to see increases in your income and inflation of about 4% a year. And you believe you can invest and get a tax free 8% rate of return. You'll invest for 40 years and need about 60% of your then current income for retirement living expenses. You'll consistently invest 8% of your income for retirement.

At retirement you expect to receive an annual pension from your company of $35,000 and Social Security of $20,000.

You can expect, at age 65, after 40 years of earning and investing, that your retirement nest egg will be about $1.765,658. That seems pretty good, but your initial annual spending at retirement will be about $144,031. Overall, your investments will provide 29 full years of inflation protected income before they are depleted. At that time you will have to count on only your pension and Social Security, and drastically lower your standard of living.

If you had saved 10% of your income instead of 8%, your retirement nest egg would last 45 years. This small change would allow your investments to carry you through the rest of your life.

You can see how minor adjustments in your retirement preparation can make a significant difference in your future standard of living.

The sooner you start using a retirement savings calculator to adjust your savings plan, the smaller the adjustments you'll need to make. There is no time like the present to help ensure a prosperous retirement.

retirement community

Can I Really Afford to Live in an Independent Retirement Community?

Maybe it’s the thought of mowing the grass, shoveling the snow, or the kitchen faucet that needs to be repaired. The multitude of responsibilities and maintenance involved in keeping up your current home may make the move to an Independent Living Community look very attractive. But is it affordable?

This is a question we hear a lot. In most communities utilities, maintenance, some laundry, and some meals are included in the fee. Use the monthly fee to compare to costs of staying in your current living situation. Remember to include utilities, taxes, insurance, fees paid for the yard work, and maintenance of your home. There should be a staff member available, at the facility you are considering, who can go over financial information with you.

If you are considering moving into a Continuum of Care Retirement Community as opposed to a stand alone Independent Retirement Community, there may be entrance fees or life care contracts to consider. According to the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, there are three basic types of contract that a resident enters into with a CCRC: extensive, modified, and fee-for-service. An extensive contract offers unlimited long-term nursing care for little or no substantial increase in your usual monthly payments. Entrance fees and monthly costs under extensive contracts are typically higher than those under modified or fee-for-service contracts. That entrance fee may be refundable over time, partially refundable or nonrefundable. You may acquire ownership of your residence within the community, or you may be provide housing on a rental basis.

A modified continuing care contract includes a specified amount of long-term nursing care beyond which you are responsible for payment. Once such specified amount of care is reached, the resident may continue to receive care, but most pay the facility's daily or monthly nursing rate.

A fee-for-service continuing care contract covers the cost of your housing, residential services, and amenities. You pay full daily rates for all long-term nursing care required. Entrance and monthly fees are lower under this type of contract because residents are responsible for all long-term nursing and health care costs.

There are many options available under the general term "CCRC". Your best course of action is to visit several communities and to decide which community offers the best combination of services, amenities and contract options for your or your loved one's particular needs and desires.

Let’s look at an example to help illustrate how even someone who didn’t THINK they could afford an Independent Retirement Community, really can!

Jane is a healthy 70 year old who wanted to enjoy the rest of her retirement years without the hassle of home maintenance, yard work, and home repairs. Plus, her home was built 40 years ago, and wasn’t particularly “senior” friendly! Doorways were narrow, the laundry room was in the basement, and the stairs to that area were narrow. She didn’t want to risk falling.

Jane didn’t think she could afford to live in an Independent Retirement Community, but after visiting her friend Marge several times, she knew it was a vibrant and active place that really catered to her lifestyle.

Jane also wanted to leave an inheritance to her children, but didn’t have a large 401K or IRA to leave behind, therefore, all she had was the value of her home. She was worried that if she sold her home and moved to an Independent Retirement Community, she would not be able to leave an inheritance. Her children on the other hand, were not worried about receiving an inheritance, they just wanted Jane to live the life that made her happy, safe, and comfortable.

After sitting down with the staff at her local Independent Retirement Community, she understood that not only could she afford to live there, but she would also be able to leave a LARGER inheritance to her children than she ever thought possible.

Here’s how it worked for Jane:

Jane’s Current Assets:

• $100,000 - total in checking/savings, CDs, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, IRA and annuities (rainy day money)

• $150,000 – value of her home

• $1400/ month Social Security Income and Pension

Cost to Live in the Independent Retirement Community:

• $2300/ month, no entrance fee, just monthly rent • -$1400/month income • = shortfall of $900/month for Jane

Jane’s Solution:

• Jane sold her home for $150,000 and put the proceeds into a lifetime annuity that generated an income of $1,204 per month. (which covers her shortfall of $900 and leaves $300 for other needs)

• Jane took her remaining assets (rainy day money) of $100,000 and left $25,000 in checking, but purchased a single premium life insurance policy for $75,000.

• That single premium life insurance policy is worth $250,000 TAX FREE to her heirs upon her death.

• Plus if she passed away within 10 years, her heirs could also possibly receive the remaining lifetime annuity payout.

• Remember this is simply an example and not a guarantee of results. Everyone needs to have their own person financial analysis completed.

Jane can now move into her Independent Retirement Community and live a safe, stress free life. Her children will receive the inheritance she always wanted them to have. Can you afford to live in an Independent Retirement Community? Chances are that with the right financial planning, you can live the retirement you always dreamed of. kidney foundation car donation

kidney foundation car donation

The National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Cars Program is a charitable contribution plan that enables you to turn in your used car, van, truck or even boat and very likely receive two benefits you won't get from a regular dealer trade-in (or from a holiday song). You'll get a good feeling and you may even get a tax-deduction.

Eighty-four (84%) percent of Americans who donated vehicles to the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Cars Program last year itemized their tax returns and were able to reap a charitable deduction for their contribution.

Then there's that good feeling, the one you experience when you give something that helps people in need in your own community. Call it pride, call it contentment, call it self-satisfaction. Either way, it's something only you can describe.

Your vehicles will pump dollars into public health education, organ donation programs and medical research to prevent kidney disease. No wonder thousands of Americans put the pedal to the metal each year and accelerated their charitable giving by donating to the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Cars Program.

What People Are Saying About Kidney Cars...

"I am a Registered Nurse and have worked in dialysis for 26 years. I had heard about the donation program before but this was the first time I had the opportunity to use it. The process was easy, the person I spoke to was very helpful and pleasant. If I have the opportunity again I would definitely donate. Kidney disease is sneaky and people need to be aware of the danger of diabetes and hypertension."

"It was the easiest experience I’ve ever had in getting rid of a car. And at the same time, helping out a charity was awesome. Thanks for doing what you do."

"I was amazed how easy it was. I was pleased that we could donate the car to the kidney foundation as my husband has end stage kidney disease."

"We donated through the internet. The website is easy to understand and the whole process was short and a good experience."

"…I was glad I caught one of your advertisements (either TV or radio) that said to check carefully who I was giving the car to - otherwise, I might have been "fooled" by some of the other websites asking for car donations. Good job folks!"

"Great Experience. I have already recommended to several friends."

"It was great experience and I feel good that I could give the car to a good cause. It was my pleasure to donate the vehicle."

car donation nj

Car donation program in new jersey, nj. Car donation centers
provide free towing service and will pick up the vehicle in NJ within 24 hours of your donation.

Donating your used car to charity is a win-win situation; the charity gets your gift and you get tax deduction. Below are some simple steps to make a car donation.

1. Understand the rules. A good place to read the government rule on car donation is IRS Publication 4303, A Donor's Guide to Car Donations (available on the IRS's website at www.irs.gov). This guide outlines some important rules regarding car donation. For example, one important rule states that car donation must be made to qualified organizations in order to be tax deductible.

2. Determine the value of your used car. Although the blue book might help you determine the value of your car, you should read IRS Publication 561, Determining the Value of Donated Property (available on the IRS's website), to see what your car really worth.

3. Find a charity to donate your vehicle. If you are associated with any charity or non-profit organizations, that organization might be your choice for donating your car. Otherwise, check the Yellow Book or search on the Internet to find an organization to which you feel like donating your car. After you have identified a candidate, you should review IRS Publication 78, which is a list of organizations eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions. This document is also available on the IRS's website and it's searchable. Make sure the candidate charity is eligible. Otherwise, you might not get your tax deduction!

4. Make your donation. After you have made the donation, make sure to ask for a written acknowledgement from the charity. You will need to attach this acknowledgement to your tax return in order to get your tax deduction.

used car donation v

What should you do with your used car? How can you deal with that used car or used truck or used rv in a beneficial manner?

Donating your car is a great way to help out worthy causes. Your car donation is fully tax deductible, as long as the charity is a registered 501(c)3 organization. It is best to check with the charity or your tax advisor to ensure you are entitled to a tax deduction.

Even though some of the car donation tax laws changed a few years back, this is still a great way to help yourself and others.

The IRS has now removed the need for an individual to determine the value of your vehicle as you are now allowed to deduct the sale price. Remember, this is the sale price that the charity sells your car for! If they dont sell the car and use it instead for their valuable work, you are entitled to deduct the market value of the vehicle.

If you do choose to make a car donation, you will find that the process is very easy. Organizations that offer to take vehicles generally have information available online or over the telephone and in some cases you can fill out online forms to start the donation process.

On the other side of the donation process, it is vitally important for charities who receive such generous gifts to acknowledge the donors as soon as practicable - immediately if possible but never longer than a few days.

Why? Being prompt is being courteous and your donors need to feel appreciated. A personal visit or phone call should be followed up by a well worded thank you letter.

Remember, people will stop giving if they dont feel that their gift is appreciated.

So, if you have clear title to your vehicle and feel you wish to give something back to your community, consider car donation. Your generous gift will help people far less fortunate than yourself.

car charitys donation

There are many charitys that accept car donations and many have such car donation programs setup online which makes donation online very simple and fast.

Here is an article on car charitys donation :

When you contemplate buying a car (whether it's previously owned or new), you're faced with the decision of what to do with your old car. Often, trading it in means receiving only a fraction of its value. Selling it through an ad in the newspaper or online is a hassle. Not only do you have to pay for the advertisement, but you also have to endure questions from potential buyers and make yourself available to people who want to view the car or take it for a test drive. In addition, you assume financial risks, in that the buyer may present you with, for example, a fraudulent check.

Increasingly, car owners are choosing to donate their older cars to charity. The process involved in a car donation is straightforward, and gives the car owner the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping those in need. Often, the tax benefit afforded the car owner as the result of an auto donation exceeds the benefit of the outright sale of the vehicle.

A variety of charities are embracing car donation as a way to support the important and valuable work they do to help adults and children who are less fortunate. Many charities have seen donations fall off, as donors instead have contributed to disaster relief, such as efforts triggered by the tsunami in Asia or by Hurricane Katrina. When you donate your car to charity, you are providing worthy organizations with much-needed support.

Many of these organizations provide services internationally to people in need. Often, a car donation can go far in helping those who are most in need. You can be sure that your auto donation has a significant impact when it is used to help the over three billion people in the world who live on a meager $2 per day.

Your car donation can help a cause you care about and help you reap the tax benefits of auto donation. Whether your car is barely used or barely runs, you can still help those in need and list the contribution on your tax return. Although you should check with your tax preparer, you can typically deduct the full amount that the charity receives for your car or $500, whichever is more.

When you decide to donate your car, the process is easy. For example, 'Donate Car for Charity' lists five simple steps you can take to make a difference in the lives of those who need the services that charities can provide. In essence, they will help you determine the value of your car donation, and all you have to do is complete an auto donation form, provide the vehicle title, and arrange for your car to be picked up at no charge. Then, you can reap the tax benefit from your car donation, and feel the satisfaction that comes with knowing that you have made a difference in the lives of others.

Giving to the Cancer Research Institute--whether in the form of a check or a credit card donation, securities, a bequest in your will, or a trust that you establish, to name but a few--and you become a partner in our mission to develop immunotherapies, like vaccines and antibody treatments, that will offer a more targeted, more effective, and less toxic treatment for cancer.

Every year, thousands of donors join the Institute in the support of our mission, and enable us to better fund our scientists and researchers worldwide in pursuit of such cancer treatments. Our donors are corporations, foundations, trusts, and individuals like you who have a vested interest in seeing this disease eradicated. Better funding, of course, means that we stand a better chance of developing new immunotherapies sooner.

charitable car donation

You might find yourself in the following situation: your car recently broke down and fixing it will actually cost you more than its worth or more than you expect. By saving the money required for the mechanical support, you might use them to purchase a new and better car. Secondly, car donation gives you a great satisfaction, because it is a noble and meaningful gesture. By understanding that you can help others in the process, you might find it easier to let go of the car you have been driving in the past years. Some of the charitable organizations work to support children and their needs to get a car for their daily duties. There are others organizations that work for the less fortunate people, who simply can afford a car, although they are in great need of one. Finding a great and meaningful cause and supporting it might be more fulfilling than you expect.

Another reason to consider a car donation is the old age of your car. If you have problems due to its increased mileage and great number of years, which imply frequent visits to the mechanic and various conditions that take a lot of your time and money, then opting for car donation might be the answer. Even more, most of the charity foundations will fix up the car before actually offering it to the ones who need it. You might find yourself in the situation of relocating to a far place or simply wanting to quickly sell your car. If you already decided to give up your car and you are thinking about fast and safe ways to do so, then opting for car domination is the right solution. Car donation saves you the hassle of finding a buyer, presenting the car too many times, haggling about the price and dealing with the frustrating paper work. Car donation is a great choice if you are in search of a new and better car or if you are simply trying to get involved in a charitable activity, which is affordable, meaningful and easy to follow.

Whether you complete the car donation form online, by mail or in person, you have to fill in your first name, your last name, your complete address and zip code, your phone and e-mail. After you complete filing in your personal information, you have to describe the vehicle you wish to donate. Almost in every car donation form there is a special section for car location and car information. On the car donation form, under the car information section, you have to give information about your vehicle's year of fabrication, model, license plate, mileage, color and the interior and exterior condition of your car. Some car donation forms have special sections where they inquire if the car is running, if it has keys, if the tires are inflated or if the vehicle is intact. Usually, there is a section on the car donation form where you have to specify if the car has a radio, a tape or CD player and if it has a security system. Another section of the car donation form requires information about the mechanical problems of the car (engine, transmission, brakes, etc) and it asks you to describe the interior and exterior damage to the car if it has any.

source : http://www.thesalvationarmycardonationprogram.org/

Since 1880 The Salvation Army has been actively involved in new and
innovative programs in the United States. So, when you get ready to
donate that used car, boat on a trailer or RV, think of our Car Donation
Program. Your donations have helped thousands have better lives.

FAQs

Q.
Will you take my vehicle even if it doesn’t run?
A.
Yes, in many cases. If a car was manufactured in 1990 or later and has not been involved in an accident, we will usually accept it. Cars that were manufactured before 1990 will be accepted only if they are running.

Q.
Will I have to pay towing costs?
A.
No. The Salvation Army will pay the towing costs.

Q.
Do I have to be there when the tow company arrives?
A.
No. When you call to arrange the pick-up, inform The Salvation Army representative that you will not be there for the pick-up. You will be given instructions on what to do with your title and keys.

Q.
How long will it be before my vehicle is picked up?
A.
Pick-ups usually occur 3-7 business days after you call us. If you need to arrange an earlier pick-up we can often make such arrangements.

Q.
Can I donate vehicles other than cars?
A.
Yes. You may donate a car, van, truck, boat with a trailer, RV, trailer, or even a small plane.

Q.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
A.
Yes, if you itemize your deductions. Use IRS form 8283 (Non-Cash Charitable Donations) to claim your deduction. Additional information regarding the completion of this form may be found here.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to read these forms. If you do not have this program, a free download is available here.

Q.
How is the amount of my tax deduction determined?
A.
Effective January 1, 2005, the allowable tax deduction for most vehicle donations is connected to the gross proceeds obtained from the sale of the vehicle. In the case of a vehicle that sells for less than $500.00, the donor is allowed to deduct a fair market value up to $500.00. In the case of a car that sells for more than $500.00, the maximum deduction that the donor may claim may not exceed the gross proceeds received by the charitable organization. In either case, we provide the donor with written confirmation of the vehicle sale and the allowable tax deduction.

Q.
I've lost the title to my vehicle. Can I still donate it?
A.
No. We cannot accept vehicles without titles. Replacement titles can usually be obtained through your state Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

Q.
What do you do with the donated vehicles?
A.
The vehicles are sold at an auction, and the proceeds are used to fund our drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. These programs are provided to our residents at absolutely no cost to themselves. Additionally, The Salvation Army Northern Virginia Adult Rehabilitation Center receives no government grants, nor do we receive any funds from the United Way. Instead, we rely solely on the income generated by your donations.

donation car in

Why would anyone put their car in as a donation? Car donations are a great way to help the less fortunate. Providing anything that you no longer need and use to those who can is a great thing to do. But, who in the world has an extra car lying around? How can you benefit from a car donation yourself?

Car donations are undoubtedly a great opportunity to show you care. But, not all of us actually have that extra car. So, how can you be this generous anyway? Car donations do not usually come from people who have an extra. Instead, people often donate their cars when they no longer need them because they are purchasing another or no longer can drive. While it is true that most individuals who do make car donations do so because they can not get a good trade in value for their current car, others simply do so because it is the right thing to do. Perhaps you will pay for your next vehicle completely, so you can afford to donate your car instead of trading it in.

What’s more is that the trade in value of most cars is far less then what the car is actually worth. Sometimes a car that is in quite good shape, runs well, but is aged can cause its worth to be very low. What are you going to do? You can try to sell it, perhaps someone will want it. But, if there is no one to purchase it, the best thing for you to do is to donate it to a worthwhile charity. Most charities do require that the car be running and in decent shape. But, think for a minute what the benefits of your donated car are to that person who needs it to get to and from work. Think of how you are helping to improve another individual’s life? Car donations, well, they are pretty good things! Besides car donations can be used as a tax deduction in most states.

used car donation

Make a donation with your used car, no matter how old the vehicle is.

It is estimated that every year, more than a million Americans donated their cars. Why do they donate their car? Well, few reasons: A. The proceeds go to charity organizations and it provides for the donor a good feeling of contributing to society. B. its tax deductible (Less than it used to). C. The car is being towed or driven away by the company who arranged the deal.

Unfortunately, whether through ignorance, confusion or greed, a substantial percentage of car donors have been deducting the full "suggested retail price" - what a dealer would get for reselling your trade-in instead of the fair market value. That's far more than the IRS had intended, costing the government millions in lost tax revenue.

The charities weren't making much, either. Most of the donated cars were sold by the charities for a pittance at auction, and middlemen who administered the programs on behalf of the charities took a large percentage of those meager profits.

So IRS changed the rule last year. From now on, if your car is valued more than $500, the deduction is limited to the charity's actual selling price. The donor must attach a statement of sale to the tax return in order to receive the deduction. (The charity is obligated to provide the statement within 30 days.) You are not entitled to know the deduction amount before donating your car. Although the IRS has closed the loophole in the law, there is still a way to deduct full market value of your vehicle: If the charity uses the car itself to further its specific purpose.

charity car donation

There are so many ways to show charity.

Making a charitable donation is a noble act. Charity need not be just with money. It can also be done by donating objects like clothes, furniture, cars and just anything. Cars are donated to the recipients directly or they are sold and the money is given away as charity. Many people prefer to donate used cars for helping the community.

There are many charitable organizations that accept cars as a donation. These cars need not be in running conditions to be donated. The cars are generally sold or auctioned and the proceeds are used for charity work. There are some organizations that accept car donations, sell the cars and give the proceeds to other charitable organizations.

Donating a car is a noble gesture. It is also a good tool for reducing tax payments. Car donation to an approved 501(C)3 charity organization is tax deductible under certain clauses. These are applicable for all kinds of cars. You can claim the car’s fair market value if the car is worth less than $500 or it is in good working condition. You can claim deduction equal to the actual sale price of the car is the car is worth more than $500. However, before donating, ensure that the donation program is a qualified, 501(c)3 IRS registered charity since only such programs are eligible for tax deductions. Information about such charity programs can be obtained from the IRS website or in the Publication 78 that is available at most public libraries. If the total donation is more than $500, then a separate form (8283) has to be filled. Donating a car for tax purposes requires itemized deductions on the personal tax return.

Determine the value of the car meant for donation. This can be done by checking the blue book value. Take the condition of the car into consideration while determining its value. Most charity organizations take donated cars for free, but there are some which charge certain fees. Make sure you have the title for the car.

Most charity organizations that accept car donations also provide other services like free vehicle pick-up, easier/hassle-free paperwork and easy online application forms. The donations can also be made to your preferred charities. These days, making a charity car donation has become very easy with online application forms and faster processing. The whole process takes just 2-3 days. Car charity organizations can be located online over the internet or they can also be found in yellow pages or through advertisements.

washable adult diaper

Diapers are not just indispensible necessities for babies and toddlers but also for grown-ups too!

Diapers are lending a helping hand to incontinence (the leaking of urine) sufferers and to those who are experiencing difficulty controlling their bowel movements.

But the diaper joy has also become a nightmare not only for the environment but also for those who are allergic to the diaper's materials. For the environment, the disposal of non-biodegradable disposable diapers is filling up landfills, while the use of chlorine to bleach the wood and cotton pulp (needed to make a diaper) contribute to dioxin pollution. Baby's delicate and sensitive skin may be allergic to the synthetic materials used to make the diaper. Thanks to eco-friendly, chlorine-free and latex-free diapers from Seventh Generation, parents can now have an alternative.

If you are concerned about landfills, adults can use washable adult diapers that are made of cloth. One of the most popular brand is the
Adult Prefold Diaper - Gauze Weave Cotton - Night Weight by The All Together Diaper Company.
Benefits of using washable adult diapers :
* Save Money! A huge savings compared to disposable incontinence products!

* Superior absorbency and leakage protection

* Extraordinary softness and comfort

* 100% Cotton Gauze weave allows air to move about freely and is especially helpful in reducing the occurrence of diaper rash.

* Extra thickness where you need it most

These 100% cotton gauze cloth adult diapers provide superior comfort, and leak protection. Under the soft gauze outer layer is an exceptionally absorbent terry cloth center that quickly soaks in moisture while the outer panels have extra fabric on the side. The extra absorbent outer panels help prevent leaks, even while sitting or sleeping on your side. Environmentally friendly and easy to launder, reusable cloth diapers can be a tremendous money saver. Quality sewn in the USA their extraordinary softness will last washing and washing.

So besides babies and adults, who else uses diapers? Pets! Purpose? To prevent waste droppings from littering indoors and outdoor places.

Some pet diapers are designed only to handle fluids and not solid waste. The diapers are meant to help deal with a pet's incontinence, minor excitable urination or for heavy seasonal flow.

Adult diaper reviews :

A Little Dignity Goes a Long Way, November 2, 2005
Reviewer: P. Maddy Grogan "Care Provider" (North East-USA) -
My husband is a quadraplegic. We are totally dependent upon Depend Undergarments, Extra Absorbency. We fold the item in half and place in a comfortable position. He can sit in his wheel chair without the uncomfortable feeling of a bulky diaper and esthetically feel secure to avoid embarrassing visual accidents whenever or wherever they may occur. We also use the product at bedtime. Depends keeps my husband and the surrounding area of the bed dry during the night. Most importantly by using this product we do not have to revert to other ways, i.e. using a foley catheter which can be the cause of frequent infections. Using the Depends Extra Absorbency has helped us avoid these problems as well as maintaining my husband's dignity to look as normal as possible.

Reviewer: Geneva Broadwater (Cave) -
I have used other brands, and they just don't compare, the others fall apart and they aren't as absorbant. It works so well for me to be able to order them on line from amazon, because I am disabled.

They worked great. There was less leakage and shifting than with other brands. In the future, I'll be purchasing Depends instead of my regular brand. It's well worth spending a little extra for the quality.

Great product. I can't imagine why anyone would keep using the Depends with buttons. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Molicare Classic Plus Briefs. Size: Small to X-Large, 120/Case

Molicare adult diaper features :
* Anti-leak cuffs. Dual-tape surface.
* Adult diaper style
* Comfort stretch poly. Wetness indicator.
* Anti-leak cuffs offer superior leakage protection
* "Natural Fit" brief
* A size and wetness indicator disappears when wet and sizing stripes helps ensure a proper fit

Molicare Classic Plus Briefs provide you with a new level in protection, dignity and comfort. Anti-leak cuffs offer superior leakage protection while dual tapes allow for multiple refastening. Generous sizing eliminates the need for regular and extra-large sizes and the "Natural Fit" brief design combined with Comfort Stretch poly conforms to the body. A size and wetness indicator disappears when wet and sizing stripes helps ensure a proper fit.

I know these are supposed to be less absorbant than the Supers or Super Plus, so that is not a factor in this review. These diapers suffer from a serious lack of padding in the lengthwise direction. So, that knocks a star off for looks and a star off for feel. As for absorbency, well the Supers and Super Plus can hold upwards of 10 wettings, I thought these would be hard pressed to hold up to 3. I was happily surprised to find out this was not the case.

TENA adult diapers are Super Briefs, which are the most absorbent fitted briefs (tab-style diapers) with a cloth-like exterior backing. They feature two adhesive tape-tabs on each side and extra super-abssorbent polymers for heavy protection, even overnight.

TENA Super Briefs have added adult diaper absorbency for moderate to heavy incontinence and feature the InstaDri Skin-Caring System that employs new technology to help keep wearers drier and help maintain their skin integrity.

A new transfer layer allows fluid to almost instantly enter the dual core and the Dry-Fast Dual Core technology wicks fluid away from the skin, trapping it into the lower core. Strategic placement of super-absorbent polymers improves fluid absorption where its most needed.

adult reusable diaper

Reusable diaper has become a nightmare not only for the environment but also for those who are allergic to the diaper's materials.

It will be good for adults too if an adult resuable diaper manufacturer will to offer a similar safer alternative.

The age of reusables have to be better controlled, otherwise we will find ourselves stuck with our waste.
